Review: Exile on Main Street
My review for the first episode of season 6, "Exile on Main Street" which contains spoilers and photos! =)
Okay how do I start this one off? So it's first time Supernatural now is shown on fridays - which means for me it's saturday that now is my SPN day! For selfish reasons I like that. It means I don't need to go through a whole school day and work day on friday and be in pain over a waiting episode lol. So saturday morning works fine. Of course there's something different this time around too. Now that I've watched all seasons of Smallville I now have two shows I follow. Supernatural is still the favorite, no worries, but what did I think of "Exile on Main Street?"
I start off a bit negative so it's out of the way and it's not a lot. I was more excited about a certain reunion in "Smallville" then the whole episode of "Supernatural" - because, without spoiling too much - it had my favorite character showing up again. It had my heart beating like an idiot and usually that happens with SPN. I'm surprised myself, but I think both the Smallville episode and this Supernatural episode was pretty equal :/ Not sure of it's a negative or positive thing, but :/
Anyway back to Supernatural. I've read comments by people who has given up already. I'm sorry, but it's one episode into the season and although no - I don't like the brothers being distant again etc, it's a whole season to go through and what the hell would things be like if everything went back to normal at once? What to do with the rest of the season then? It does kinda pain me because yes - I do want the brothers back together and alright RIGHT now, but I have to admit, it makes more sense this way XD
The intro! It was different and no songs? *Sniffle* But it was cool. I liked it. Short and simple. The titles weren't the green-ish forest thingy we've seen in the promos, but the glass breaking was pretty cool though. It's just titles anyway right? hehe.
So the original Yellow Eyes were "back" for a little. Nice to see Fredric again and he's always the best YED, BUT I thought that first scene with him felt a little awkward. I can't pinpoint the reason. I think Fredric's good, but maybe it was him being maybe a little... off? Not much, but I thought it was a little awkward. Didn't ruin anything though. Then Sam came and saved the day! Yeah boy!
Speaking of - dissapointing reunion. Maybe that's why I ran to Smallville for that one? lol. I wanted a bigger hug and in the promo we see Sam hug back, but now it was cut closer to his face. Nonetheless it made sense. The look in Dean's eyes, Sam's creepy-ish smile? So it wasn't nearly as emotional as it could have been, but here's me hoping for at least one hug when things get better? Because they are! Of course they are! Right? XD Anyway back to Sammy's creepy calm smile. It's obviously because he's different, but I'd say it's also obvious that he's happy. The calm smile, the little nod as if saying "Yeah this is it. This is what I've been waiting fo", but at the same time holding back because he's a different Sam - again. Sorry Sera, but it's done before so although it makes sense I don't want it to drag over the whole season and another chance to trash him. And at least SHOW us his emotions and toughts.
Oh anyway now to Dean. Not so fond of whipped-Dean. It's not the Dean we know, but again - it's been a year - he's different too. Although I know some fans will never feel sympathy for Sam, I do feel sympathy for both. I feel I understand both of them when it comes to Sam's return. Sam wanting Dean to have a normal life despite knowing Dean wants his brother - it's very Sam. Come on. But of course Dean's gonna argue with that and I understand it. I wish the two could just agree to disagree and get over it lol, but it wont so easily. Anyway I like that, that I can have sympathy for both brothers because in the end - although being a Sam girl, I love both brothers.
The Campbells. On a superficial note - Samuel's head shape is kinda distracting. He kinda looks like a mouse or something. I know it's awful, sorry! He's a good actor though, but what the hell is he there for? Of course we'll get to know sooner or later, but something's up. If he's good or bad, no idea. Maybe it's a shapie because it has the memories of Samuel. I liked the chick. She was spunky and cool lol. The two others didn't really do much so I don't really have an opinion about them. I assume it's the Christian actor that appeared in an episode of "Ghost Whisperer" too.
And did you hear the brothers theme when Samuel showed up? It's the good ole' theme from the good old days! Gosh I miss those days. I miss that Supernatural.
I dunno what others thinks of Sam's car, but that's one fine lady! lol. I liked it. It's so not gonna last because of course in the end there's only one and only car for the Winchesters. And all we got of her this episode was her rear? lol. *Sigh* and Sam not accepting it... wouldn't surprise me if some fans find that a reason to hate Sam too. Oh fandom.
Kinda liked Lisa's reaction to Sam, without really knowing why since it was so short. Not sure what I think of her. I understand her too, not wanting Dean to run off, but I don't want Dean to be held back either. Anyway she felt kinda awkward in the episode. Probably because the whole setting is so new to the show, but it felt weird and I didn't warm up to it in this episode.
Oh! Oh! I also liked the beginning with the smallest things reminding Dean/us on him and Sam.
The end with Dean not coming with Sam didn't surprise me, but I think it showed why Sam was so cold-ish in the episode. He put the mask back up as soon as he was sorta rejected by Dean there. It's all just an act! Come on Sam! Snap out of it! lol
Not much more to say. It wasn't nearly as good as I hoped though it had it's moments. I might not be the biggest fan of Sera, but I hope she pulls better things out of the hat. I'm still positive and I know she's supposed to be a brothers-lover right? So I'm still hoping for things to go better soon enough, not too much Cas, much limp!Sam LOL and brother moments. Bring it Sera! Prove me how wrong I'm about you!
