Pretty much. And the real kicker is: you fall off during one of these bumpy landings, you become one of the natives.

He's not even open to piloting tips from the professionals. I think it makes him nervous.

That sounds like a coup and as a member of Starfleet, I am very against those.

As a person on this crap heap, I'd say that's not a bad idea. At least someone who can us towards a nice planet without killing everyone in the process.
