018: Hallucinations suck

It's over, huh? Good. I need... [He trails off, perhaps unsure what he needs. A drink? A friend? A good night's sleep? A bullet to the head?]

...to forget all that. Somehow.

They always know just what buttons to push, don't they?

[Jack sighs and sets the journal aside, intending to switch it off. Before he does, however, one might hear ( Read more... )

...that's what makes them borderline brilliant though, wouldn't you say? Not that I'm encouraging it by any means.

Really. [He's already racking his brain for some sort of solution, though it makes it harder not knowing how it happened in the first place.] If it wasn't done by magical means, I'm not entirely sure it'd have the same effect, you realize. How long ago was this?

[[ooc: ...jeezes ._.;; yay for lack of information!]]

It was a really long time ago. Or far in the future, however you want to look at it. [Jack chuckles again and shakes his head at himself... ah, the troubles of being an immortal time-traveler.] Sorry. I was a lot younger, but it happened in the future, and I'm pretty sure it was done by technology, not magic.

You may not be able to do anything, but... it's just something that's still bothered me, no matter how much time passes.

The future. [Right. You and your time-traveling...way to confuse him, Jack. He's still uncertain about technology, but perhaps Granger would know. Not that he'll ask her flat-out, but it's a thought.] Understandable.

I might if I thought on it. Isn't there anyone you know that could just tell you about those years?

There was one person, but... he either doesn't know, or won't tell me. Or they wiped him too, and he doesn't realize it. We haven't talked about it much, though. Not something that just came up in our conversations. [He and John were usually too busy either beating each other up or shagging each other senseless for something as trivial as meaningful conversation about missing years in the Time Agency.]

I could also ask the Doctor to try to help. He's poked around in my head a bit before, after the Malnosso messed me up pretty bad.

Then I suppose it's not important enough to receive information about. [Draco doesn't get the whole 'not using people to his benefit' thing just yet.] Think on it, get back to me if you figure out more information.

...the 'Doctor'? [He's picked up on the fact it's a doctor with a capital D, but he's not sure what that really means.] What would he know?

Or it's very important and they didn't want anyone else to know about it. [Jack laughs softly.] Honestly, I really shouldn't worry about it, it's two years out of... well, quite a lot now, but still. I can remember nearly all of the rest, even if I'd rather not, sometimes.

Just the Doctor. You haven't run into him, I take it? We've traveled together.

...I suppose that makes sense as well, yeah. [He's had his own share of secrets and the like.] On the other hand, I suppose that would be enough to drive anyone mental if it's a short amount of time out of a much larger amount. If you could travel back to that time though, would there be a way to prevent it in the first place?

I might have, I might not have. What's he like?

Time travel doesn't quite work that way. I can't affect things that have already happened in my own timeline. [Oh, he's thought about it, sure... and so many other things he'd change too.] Besides, I can't travel on my own anymore. The Doctor, now, he's got the working time machine. Doesn't have it here, unfortunately.

What's he like? [How to explain the Doctor in just a few sentences... hmm...] Probably the most fascinating and frustrating man you'll ever meet. Thinks far more than he talks, and he'll talk your ear off if you let him. Aside from me, he's probably the oldest person here, but you wouldn't know it until you look in his eyes. Never sits still for more than a few minutes at a time, and he's interested in everything. [There's quite a bit of affection in Jack's tone as he talks about his Doctor.] He's the kindest person I've ever met, and also the most dangerous... sorry, I'm rambling, aren't I?

In our world, we have Time Turners. I've never known anyone who's used one but from what I've read wizards and witches can go back in their time and change how things come out in the end. [If only he knew that Harry and Hermione both have used one.] I reckon the machine isn't something he can just replicate or whatever, then.

...yes, yes you are. Though he sounds somewhat brilliant if he's as old as you say he is. And if he can create a time machine. He's here with you then? How long has it been?

[[OOC: Gotta love different canons and their rules about time travel...]]

That's... dangerous, playing with Time like that. I've had to be very careful not to interfere with my own timeline, living as long as I have and traveling as much.

No, he can't replicate it... he didn't even build it, originally. He's... [Jack hesitates a moment, wondering what the Doctor would want told about him, but decides to go ahead.] He's a Time Lord. Alien, but you wouldn't know it looking at him.

They say that if a person's not careful, they can drive anyone mental. One wrong step and you can land yourself in St. Mungo's. There's a reason most of our kind aren't given access to such things...though some of us should be.

An alien. [If it helps, Draco's not sure he believes that.] And what exactly does a Time Lord Alien do?

There's a reason why a lot of people shouldn't be allowed to use such things. Hell, the Doctor's broken my Vortex Manipulator. Several times, in fact... he doesn't want me jumping around time on my own. Said I'd have to go everywhere in the universe twice, the second time to apologize. [He laughs at that, but then turns more serious again.]

What does he do? Travels. A lot. Finds interesting times and places to see. Makes sure Time is going the way it should be going, not having things like the Daleks invading Manhattan in the 1920's or Cybermen taking over the world in 2009. And not just Earth, though he seems to like us... he keeps an eye on other planets too.

I reckon his reasoning is logical in some way or another, though still slightly unfair. There are plenty of things one could do with time travel if allowed...but that's neither here nor there.

So he's sort of a master of the whole universe, keeping everything in order. Is that really what you're telling me, Captain? [He's not even going to ask what Daleks or Cybermen are.]

[Jack definitely doesn't like the sound of that, especially not the word "master."] No. He's not like that at all. You'd have to meet him to understand, I think. But he doesn't try to control everything.

[Draco likes to throw words like that around loosely, don't mind him.] Just keep everything running, right. Suppose I wanted to meet him then...where would I find him?
