This city...[1]
I've arrived here, though I'm not sure how. Across similar lines, I'm not rightly sure where here would be, precisely. I've been to purgatory, and that's not what this is. That's the closest connection I can make so far, though.
It only a city, odd in manner and construction. A good amount of the people here seem to be of the far East, but I don't think it's the orient, here. I've read books, both fact and fancy, and those foreign lands were not like this. There are Europeans, too. I believe I heard a singing Frenchman. (His voice wasn't as high-pitched as I would've expected.)
I've heard the vaguest whisperings about ships. Am I to suspect there's a harbor, then? So far as I can see, that's not the case. If anyone can offer otherwise, by all means...
Speak up, though try not to scare Jack. He's a little on edge, and his voice makes it awful hard to hear at times.
