This post is 100% celebrity death news free. This line excepted. I just needed to close some tabs. All news cribbed from other people's LJs, apologizes to those who see some of it twice.

2 things. 1, Scary! Anne Arundel County is where Tickly Girl lives.

2, while you're technically right, the terror bombing of London was, in fact, called the Blitz, so it's not completely unreasonable to think "Blitz=city bombing". It's a little hard to sort out who's really responsible for that, though: Guernica was the first European city to feel the effects of a full-on terror-bombing by aircraft, in 1937, and it was mostly German aircraft doing it (getting in a little practice before they went after your folk :/ ). The German assault on English (largely) cities from the air started after the RAF bombed Berlin ineffectually, as a way of saying "Hi!": this pissed off Hitler and Goering enough that they shifted their targets to terror-bombing London in retaliation.

THEN we put the mighty air forces in gear and started plastering every German city in sight. As I said, the "first shot" is a bit confused, but in the end, both sides were willing to bomb civilians to achieve their terrorizing aims. :/

On the typo thing... my social psych grad student friend wrote a detailed post about that (sadly locked). To sum up, they did the same thing to:

Foley (Multiple times)
Ted Stevens
McCain (In his "maverick" days)
Arlen Specter (Multiple times before his 'conversion')
Among several others...

So it is Quite deliberate.
