great job on this one! i understand how john feels about taxidermy. got to do some myself on a cardinal & woodpecker for class. not as fun as it seems.

Ahhhh, it was even more awesome than I expected it to be! I loved it! Love Sammy's excitement and my heart went out to him that it got him in trouble when he just wanted to have fun with his Dad, but John was totally justified. Also liked the wee sneaky swats of Dean, and how Mary went up to check on father and son afterwards. :) and, I LOVE Cara's return, I love that dog haha! Well done! Thank you so much for writing such an excellent fic for my prompt :')

Yaaay! :D Oh I`m so happy to hear you liked this. I swear, this prompt COULDN`T be more perfect for me, it put me right in my comfort zone. hehe! I really loved writing this. (I based the museum off the Museum of Natural History in the town where I live)

I`ll make sure to include Cara somehow in all the AU fics from now on. ;)

I love that in this AU John can (and does!) get to spend quality time with his children.
Your Sammy here was just perfect! I could really feel his enthusiasm and excitement :D It was a really sweet image of him talking his dad's ear off about the animals. Hee hee. Loved the tantrum in the gift shop! ;)
I did feel sorry for John in this - he naturally felt guilty when Sam was subdued in the museum (even though young Sammy deserved those swats!) as it was their special day out. I also felt sorry for him having to carry the spanking out when they got home when he really didn't want to. You got John's thoughts and feelings across beautifully here.
I also like the fact that you can see here the difference that not losing Mary has had on John's personality (to me anyway)- I reckon that canon John would have spanked Sam when he ran off ahead after buying their ticket, as he had already been warned not to do that. AU John is realistically more patient, taking into account Sam's excitement.

Writing this AU is very interesting in terms of exploring John`s character. I really think he would have been a strict, no-nonsense type of parent even if Mary had lived, but more patient than canon John.
I loved writing this, and I`m glad you loved reading it, hehe.
