Being liberal means you have an opinion. Being Republican means you have an opinion. Being anything means you have an opinion. Part of being at a privileged elite school means you have very different ways of expressing your opinion.

But irregardless, know that what you think and do does matter. Maybe not to your "sorority/ frat/ materialistic/ egomaniac/" classmates, maybe not to your teachers, maybe even not to your family, but it matters to you and that's what counts. It will matter to them one day, just not now. Probably the day they finally see you for who you are.

Okay, that is just a condescending comment. First of all, no where in the entry do I say "Republican," this isn't about simple politics.

Second, my opinion doesn't matter. When I express it, it is literally torn down and if I make a good case people resort to personal attacks. I have no support, and I'm used to at least having some. I wouldn't feel hurt and utterly crushed by the "might is right" majority of conservative/traditional kids at this school if I had support or my opinion actually mattered.

It's not meant to be condescending. I was using Republican and Liberal as an example of groups of people whose opinions are often dismissed or debated on the basis of the stereotype associated with that group.

I'm sorry that my comment upset you and was taken so negatively. I'm also sorry you have no support at school, I was trying to point out that while it sounded like people in your life weren't able to see what you are really capable of and were taking out whatever it was they were dealing with out on you, that one day they will grow up enough to see what you were actually saying had merit.
