I've wanted a stand mixer for so long, it's definitely something that once you see the ease of it, makes a hand mixer seem pretty annoying. What's odd is that in our house, Anthony loves to cook and I love to bake despite he being the logical left side of the brain type and me being more of a whole brain/leaning more to the artistic right side of the brain . Odd because cooking is usually about creativity and experimenting and baking is so precise, almost scientific.

Question: have you ever used silicone bakeware with any success?

Nope, I never have--is it tricky to use?

Well we used to use some in Sydney semi-successfully, but we would use spray oil which is apparently a big no no with silicone because it stains. All the ads and homeshopping crap I've seen makes out as if they'll never stick, but without the oil it always does. I'm talking half the cake staying behind, not a few crumbs.
It's a shame because we bought this big set of the stuff and if it worked how the sellers said it worked, it would be great, but it doesn't. Weirdly enough though, we have found that where it fails at cakes/breads, it works great with rocky road.

Oh man, I had really hoped to get the KitchenAid stand mixer off my registry. Alas, I did not. So now I've got to take back a few not so awesome wedding gifts so I can use the credit for my mixer. I'm also going to go with this processor: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=15823070

I like the medium size and it has good reviews on Amazon.

Yeah, that's the stand mixer I'm looking at, but maybe I'll put it on a very hopeful birthday list.

I <3 my KitchenAid stand mixer. I used some of the wedding $$ we got to buy it off our registry, and I was so happy I did. I try to find excuses to use it. :)

I also have this food processor--one of the best you can get. Cuisinart 14-cup. LOVE IT.

I'm going to go bake some zucchini oatmeal muffins right now. :D

Also, you don't need a stand mixer to make pie. The most traditional way to make pie crust is to use a pastry blender, which is way cheap. You can also use a regular blade on a food processor--this is what I have done. I hate making pie crust from scratch, though, so I usually just make cobbler. SO much easier. :)

You are very right about pie crust, and I doubt I'll get a stand mixer anytime soon. I've never made pie crust from scratch, obviously, but I thought it'd be a fun thing to try. I liked that processor you posted, I'll have to pick that up. I love cobbler too, and if the pie crust doesn't work out...cobbler for everyone!
