I saw the new Star Trek movie last night, and was really very surprised. I had expected it to be good in a Trek way (you know, like Wrath of Khan or something). It was, in fact, just plain good. It *was* good. Very good. The casting was impeccable, and I think that this is the only franchise reboot that I've ever seen that doesn't either outright ignore its predecessor or fuck up the transition. I was expecting the inclusion of Nimoy's Spock to be awkward, but it completely wasn't. I have to admit, I was really impressed.

I'm pretty sure it's the first reboot [ever/in recent years when reboots became all the rage] to not just "start over" but actually have an in-universe reset button of sorts. Worked nicely, in a vaguely meta way.

I know! I walked away really enjoying it. The guy who played kirk was really good, and simon pegg was my favorite.

Pegg was pretty awesome. I've always been a big McCoy fan, so I was thrilled at Karl Urban's take on the part. Classic.
