Often times on the meme, really interesting topics come up. They're not wanky or mean-spirited, but the prompt post is not the place for them. Until now, I've been directing them to the guidelines post, but from here on out, I'll direct them here. Avengers Assemble! anonymous August 18 2011, 03:52:39 UTC
Sooooo on a scale from 1 to 10 how excited is everyone for the avengers? Steve's manpain is going to be delicious. And I am expecting fic production on par with that of inception. Though I do have to wonder if the marvel kinkmemes will merge or something?

What say you, anons? Are you excited? Will you be producing epic fic?

I'm not anon, but I'd say 11.

And yes, I'll be writing crazy fic as much as I can.

Yeah, I'm honestly curious. Isn't "woman dresses like a man in order to join the military/go to school/join a sports team" a fairly common fictional trope?

It's not just a fictional trope, women dressing like men to join the military happened in real life. Granted not WWII, but it definitely happened during the American Civil War and I see no reason why earlier wars would have been different.

Apparently it did occur, though not often, in WWII:

What Breed of Dog Would Steve Have? ficbypen August 26 2011, 18:33:34 UTC
So, now for something completely different.

What type of dog would Steve have? I definitely see him as a puppy person. I'm just trying to figure out what breed would suit him best. (I know that Chris Evans has a bulldog, but I can't *quite* see Steve with a bulldog.)

a mongrel mutt he adopts from a shelter, because he's the kind of person who would see something other people don't want and feel bad. so the dog might be a little ugly and rough around the edges, but with patience and training it would be intelligent and loyal and have a heart of gold.

I was totally thinking he'd adopt a special needs dog, maybe. Get a little runt like he was!

Before he was in the USO, did Steve get training? I mean, he couldn't become Captain overnight.

Well, we've seen him doing the training with the other guys before he fell on the grenade so you can at least assume a standard military training. Of course, we don't know what special classes may have been included for the potential super soldier candidates.
So, while that probably didn't do anything you could for example assume some material arts classes that benefit Cap latter.
The serum could also have influenced Steve's learning speed. Another thing to keep in mind is that the movie shows about 2-3 years of battling in Europe on the whole. There's plently of time to learn some things on the go.

The movie, quite frankly, fails to show that the events depicted take place over three years. Project Rebirth is in 1942. The USO is 1942 to 1943. Saving the Troops is 1943. Captain America in action is 1943 to 1945. Plane crashes in 1945. (In the comics, it actually sometime between April 4th, 1945 and April 12, 1945. Because it's always depicted as he liberates a camp, but disappears before FDR dies.)

So he's got tons of time to learn and train :D

I like how in the movie, Bucky becomes a sniper seemingly overnight.
