To Move Or Not to Move: Part II

Jan 04, 2012 17:25

First of all, thank you all very much for your responses to our previous discussion post! It seems that by far the majority of the player-base that left us feedback is in favor of a move. Thus we will dedicate this post to open discussion, to laying out what will need to happen before any kind of move were to happen, and to vote once and for all. ( Read more... )

I know some people are having trouble playing on LJ at all... is there any chance of a gradual shift over to DW so people can still play during a month and a half wait...? No idea if this is possible, but...

I'd like to know this, too. At least one person wants to play at C&C but wouldn't play until DW became an option, whether gradually or all at once.

I hope we don't forget we've got some members who literally do not have a choice in playing at lj or not and are stuck waiting for the rest of us to come to a decision. We need to do something about them soon.

Man I had not even considered this before, you're right. :c

I voted.

Side-thought: I understand the reasons for wanting to delay to mid-February, but I also have concerns about that wait, kinda? We can already see that we have at least a few players having problems of one kind or another with LJ, and as time goes on we may lose some more players/characters. On top of that, it will be difficult for us to make up for those missing people (real or fictional) when the majority of RPers are heading toward/already re-settled in DW--we're not really in the same situation we were before, when potential replacements could be enabled just from a few comms over. Combined with our usual newbie gathering/retention rate, I think it could maybe get ugly for us if we as a game spend too much time out of the main RP loop, so to speak?

IDK, just throwing that out there. Whatever the move date, if it happens, I'm following.

I have similar thoughts. I appreciate the desire to wait, but I worry that waiting for so long will harm the game.

I guess I'm also a little confused about how the game would be working until then. Would it just be business as usual until the official move date? Or are things in-game going to be on hiatus at some point?

The specific logistics, as well as the specific date, are still in discussion as the matter itself is still in discussion. We're not trying to keep the player-base on the edge of their seat with the wait, but there are still a lot of things that we mods need to do before a move can be possible, even discounting the other factors for waiting above. But we'll give you all concrete answers as soon as we have them!

Also--I saw the suggestion somewhere. On the last post, I think? Don't remember. Anyway, there was talk of a possible game plot to explain the move, and I think that'd be brilliant. It'd give us something to do in the meantime and also shake the game up a bit, which is needed and would give something of a good hook for new players over at DW when we do swap over.

I'm in a game (not CFUD) that's already moved and will be importing out community soon. We've been playing there since December. While I know that there are concerns over server ownership, stress tests, and stability, I will say this - I have never seen a support team more dedicated to helping, listening and understanding community concerns. They see us as clients more than commodities which is the increasing feeling I get from LJ support. Clients you want to keep happy, you want to address their concerns, and if they're concerned about something you explain. Commodities can be bought, traded and sold so long as the margins stay tight ( ... )

I'm definitely for waiting to see how DW handles the load/invite code deals. Moving away from LJ won't help a whole lot if there are massive problems on the other end as well.

I'd definitely want to see the communities here stay up as an archive of sorts. And I like the idea of leaving Spam comm open for voice testing memes and Open RPs and such.

yeah, see, I didn't know until gabbie's last post that there were issues of that nature. I really want to make sure they can handle it before we try to move. CFUD being a test is good.

I voted no preference because I have none; granted, I'll be staying with the game no matter where it goes because the game itself is what's important to me, and so far my concerns about DW are either theoretical or will be moot if/when LJ makes things even harder over here. I've at least become comfortable with the concept of moving as opposed to balking at such a big scary thing.

I mainly wanted to know that there were in fact actual people having actual problems accessing the site, partially or in total. I've seen at least two, and that's two too many. Just because I'm having zero issues with LJ and have rolled with its punches doesn't mean I'm going to thumb my nose at people who are having problems. And really, a site being inaccessible or non-functional is a pretty damn good reason for choosing not to use it ( ... )
