So, I hear you like MAGIC...
Magic*Con is a convention held every year over Labor Day weekend (September 2-4) and it is slated as "the world's largest and best fantasy and science fiction convention. It's very focused on magic (including stage magicians, Vodou priestesses, psychics, and the like as well as fandom stuff).
Under the cut is a proper FAQ. I have designed it for maximum skimming, which I completely encourage you to do!
■ WHERE AND WHEN IS MAGIC*CON? HOW DO MY CHARACTER(S) GET THERE?
It's located in Dunwich, Massachusetts on September 2-4. Transportation for anyone who can't get there on their will be provided via teleportation from Zatanna.
■ WHERE ARE MY CHARACTER(S) STAYING?
Zatanna has paid for rental of the top floor of the hotel the convention is located at, so anyone invited can crash there. Because she's a cheater, she's used her magic to expand it and make the rooms larger and better. The room she's staying in, by day, will act as a very large meeting room/lounge for magic users to meet and... discuss stuff. Only magic users can enter. Suck it, normal folk. :|
■ WHERE DO NON-MAGIC USERS STAY?
Somewhere else? That's up to your character. Sorry, but Zee ain't letting you crash for free, unless you're a magic bro.
■ ARE THERE AGE RESTRICTIONS? IF SO, HOW DO I GET AROUND THEM?
18+ unless accompanied by an adult or legal guardian. Zatanna won't be checking IDs, but if your character looks under eighteen, she will not teleport them herself or pay for them to be registered.
■ BUT I STILL WANT MY CHARACTER TO GO?
As stated above, she won't be IDing anyone and there are plenty of alternative ways to get there. Just remember that anyone that looks under 18 will probably be kicked out before the day's end or flat-out not admitted at all. This does not mean that they cannot attend, but please be mindful of this information.
■ MY CHARACTER ISN'T MAGIC, BUT I WANT THEM TO ATTEND!
Anyone that can get there on their own (or via another friend) is welcome to come. Zatanna won't let them crash or pay for them to go, however!
■ I PLAY A DASTARDLY VILLAIN-TYPE! WHAT DO?
Anyone that visibly causes a ruckus will be forcibly removed (either by hotel security, the local PD, or Zatanna and other magic users). Keep the creepy on the down-low or do it when you're ready to ditch. If you'd like to do something on a larger scale, please discuss it with myself and B-Thugg now and we'll try to work something out and hopefully add it to the itinerary.
■ OKAY, WHAT'S GOING DOWN AT THE CONVENTION THAT DOESN'T INVOLVE FANDOM?
The usual convention stuff, but with a decidedly magic twist. Zatanna will be performing Friday (evening) and Saturday (11 AM and early evening) as will stage magicians with less of a presence. There will be magical rituals, yoga, meditation, tai-chi, and various panels featuring magical authorities.
■ AND WHAT ABOUT FANDOM?
The usual stuff! Cosplay is common and there will be a costume contest. There's also panels on various science fiction and fantasy fandoms and book-reading by famous and unknown authors alike.
■ VENDORS?
There is a dealer room that's half-New Agey and half-fandom (which is the important half, obviously). Fred and George Weasley's company Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes will also have a booth!
■ IN-GAME FANDOM PRESENCE?
As it's been discussed in the past, there is a fandom for in-game famous characters. It stands to reason that more popular fandoms would have a presence, in addition to characters such as Zatanna, Mitch Hundred, or Hank McCoy. There's bound to be plenty of bootleg items like comics, fanart, and fanfiction anthologies, as well as groups of fans discussing them. The notable groups of obsessive shippers that will be present are: Nygborn (which will have its own two-hour long panel on Saturday), Bond/Eddie, and Zatanna/Bond. There are like four people who ship Zatanna with Arthur that will awkwardly trail him the whole time.
■ WHAT ELSE IS HAPPENING, ASIDE FROM CONVENTION STUFF?
Friday and Saturday will be entirely chill. Mostly just talking and eating and dicking around. Nothing all that special!
■ YOU FORGOT SUNDAY.
Well, on Saturday, Zatanna will have used her magic on a very large, dying plant in the hotel to perk it up a bit. On Sunday, the same plant is still dying and Rose does the same. The combination of the magic, instead of helping the plant out, turns it into a giant, leafy monster. Whoops.
■ HOW DO THEY DEAL WITH GIANT... LEAFY... MONSTER...?
The real magic users assemble and fight it. Most con-goers seem to think that it's an elaborate cosplay as part of some movie promotion and plenty of them just stay where they are and film it. Zatanna and James eventually defeat it with the help of Rose. Most of this will be hand-waved because we're lazy.
■ THAT'S LOVELY. ANYTHING ELSE?
Around Thanksgiving, a low-budget movie compiled of the fight videos and some new footage starring Gerard Butler as Rose, Rob Lowe as Zee, and Kirsten Stewart as James Bond is released in theaters. It's called ABRACADAMAGE! and it's the number one movie at the box office for five weeks before sliding into second and third place for more than a month. More information about this hideous monstrosity will be made available around Thanksgiving.
■ WHEN WILL THE LOG BE GOING UP?
I will probably put a post up in capeandcowllogs early, depending on my schedule. It'll be linked the day that it's been posted on capeandcowlooc.
