River had the presence of mind (thankfully) to remember shoes before leaving the house. She only wore them outside, and hadn't been wearing them when she'd arrived in this world, but she'd scrounged up a pair of grungy boots and clomped out of the apartment in them.

It took her a while to find the apartment. It was like a maze, the city was. She had to walk carefully to make sure no one touched her too much, and stood for a few minutes on a street corner to watch the trundling traffic go by with fascination, until someone finally asked her to get down off the newspaper dispenser.

She did eventually find her way there, though, checking the directions she'd found on the internet. The buzzer took her a minute to figure out, but once she got it she traipsed up the stairs, bypassing the elevator completely. It was much more interesting to walk by all those doors, get little strange, vague waves of emotion from inside them. She liked apartment buildings, she'd decided.

She put her ear to Kiden's door before knocking on it, then rapped

Kiden was halfway through a daydream regarding stealing one of the Spider-Men's webshooters when the knock at the door came. She jumped a little, instinctively pulling her feet off the chair they were rested on, and got to her feet.

Despite having seen River on video over the comms, Kiden wasn't entirely sure what to expect, and probably ought to have been a little more bothered by that than she was. Not keen on wasting any more time, she made her way to the front door and opened it.

Kiden stared at the girl in front of her for a moment, before stepping to the side so she could make her way in.

“River, right?” Kiden said, but didn't wait for an answer. “Hey! Come in. The pizza's still hot.”

She walked slowly in, surveying the room. No one else home. Her eyes fell on the box on the table. She could smell...food, though it didn't quite smell like anything she recognized. Had to be pizza. She gravitated toward it with careful steps, like it was a holy relic to be regarded with awe toward its power. "In that box?" she asked, forgoing the usual 'hello' for pizza fascination.

Kiden stood with her arms crossed, watching River approach the pizza like it was-Kiden had no idea. Like it wasn't a greasy pizza she'd picked up for ten dollars on the way home from work.

She grinned, stepping towards the table, and stood besides River.

“Yeah, this is the pizza,” Kiden said, lifting the lid on the first box, “I didn't know what you'd like, so there's a bit of everything. Hope you're hungry.”

She opened the second and third boxes, and then took a slice of the pizza-with-everything for herself, gesturing with one hand for Rive to do the same.

“Where are you from if they don't have pizza, huh?” she asked through a mouthful of food.
