[Jono hangs back a bit, watching the cab leave with relief; the cabbie apparently hadn't bought the burn-victim story and had been staring at Jono in the rearview mirror when he'd thought the teenager wasn't looking.

He's having mixed feelings about seeing Monet and Paige. On the one hand, he'd be glad to have any familiarity he could in this situation. On the other, Monet is different, and that unsettles him. Paige, too, although admittedly, a lot of his reluctance to see her could be rooted in the unshakeable feeling that she might, after all, be the exact same. As in, not talking to him.]

[ Monet isn't waiting, exactly, but when the intercom rings, she can't help but feel tension begin to lift from her shoulders. Spending time with Jamie is nice, but slightly awkward, and her feelings for him are complicated. She likes other people in this city well enough -- Dani, Sam, and some of the other X-Men, Tyki, James Bond, and even Deadpool on occasion, when he isn't shooting her or trying to get into her pants -- but she's still keeping everyone at a nice distance, unwilling to freely trust.

But this? This is comfortable. Familiar. These were people who've seen her at her best and her worst and loved her all the same. This is her family.

When she responds, it's in her usual bored, sardonic tone, but even she can't help but let a little cheer through. ]

Gifts? What kind of gifts? If they're not up to my standards, you'll have to turn around and go home, so I hope you chose carefully.

[Paige is in the kitchen, hanging back and getting the snacks ready. She isn't as worried as she was when Jono first showed up looking like the Jono she remembered. A lot of things had happened between the time Jono and Paige came from and she just had to remember to be the bigger person and be mature.

And not call him Angelo's friend.

She laughs when she hears Monet's words. Time couldn't change everything about a person, apparently.]

I assure you, most esteemed señorita, that they'll pass your inspection!

[ He's thrown a chick flick in there somewhere. That has to earn him bonus points. A grin comes to his face as he hears the buzz that opens the door, and he and Jono step in from waiting room to heated lobby. Much better. He presses the button for the elevator and waits for it to descend. ]

Now just remember to smile.

[ Monet drops herself onto the big corner armchair and grabs a bowl of popcorn in preparation for the real show -- the Paige and Jono saga, part sixteen. She'll have to talk to Angelo later about a bet; how long could the two dance around each other before angrily falling into bed?

She gives them three weeks. Maximum. ]

The remote is on the coffee table, Ange.

[ She gestures vaguely in that direction, now much too comfortable to move. ]

[ Making a show of closing his eyes, shuffling the cases and picking one at random, Angelo holds up their movie pick of the night: Texas Chainsaw Massacre. He grins. ]

The traditional Leatherface will start us off, then.

[ He pops the disc into the player and settles back on the couch with a bowl of chips in his lap. Reaching for the remote, he looks for familiar buttons on it and attempts to fast-forward, finding himself surprised as he starts skipping through previews. ]

I'm sure I'm gonna appreciate this function when I get the hang of it.

[ A bit of fiddling, and they make it to the menu screen without an issue, and the movie starts. ]

[Jono sits down in the middle of the couch, as Ange and Paige have taken the opposite ends. Paige says nothing to him. Brilliant, the evening was shaping up to be great already.]

So long as it works the same.

[DVDs had been a foreign concept until they'd gotten to the video store. It made sense, really, having videos on CDs as well as music.]

[ Monet glanced at Jono from the corner of her eye. More interested in him than the movie, she opened a telepathic link. ]
