Grandpa has a boo boo - Sunday night honorindeath February 7 2010, 04:01:45 UTC
Orson stalls as he tries to figure what to do. He needs help, and he needs it as quickly as possible. If he hits the trail back to the room he and the rest of the 'family' are staying in, he could get help and not too many questions. Danny or Wu would be there, but he's not sure he wants them to see this goddamn mess. On the other hand, he knew there was a clinic in the area---he's dropped a kid pre-O.D.'d there. Orson's a car running on fumes, his internal chi meter flashing empty, needle pushed into the imaginary red zone. Every breath rakes fire down the inside of his ribcage and he thinks, well, O, you've really gone and done it now.

As far as he can tell, he's been shot twice. One grazed his side and went through while the other hit bone and is kicking around in an effort to find a new home. When he finally gets to the clinic, the heavy green knit of his sweater's crusty-dark with blood and his vision's blurred at the edges. Not good.

Orson fumbles for the words with numb lips, medizinisch, un coup de feu, "Medic. Gunshot."

They have a system at the clinic- certain injuries or illnesses get you bumped right on up the line and mean you see the next available doctor and in the mean time get treated by the first staff member who sees you- everyone at the clinic is trained to get emergency patients set up so the doctors can work their magic. There's a range of things that'll get you first class treatment- heart attack, stroke, seizure, spinal damage, and massive bleeding, to name a few. Oh, yeah, and gunshot wounds. In the movies you can take a bullet in the leg or the shoulder and shake it off, but in real life you've got way, way too many blood vessels in both that can bleed you out no problem.

So Rikki hears the word gunshot and is halfway through setting up a stretcher when she realizes who it is who's just staggered into the clinic. She wants to scream at the entire universe to stop hurting people she cares about or else, but there's the more immediate problem of Orson with a gunshot wound to handle, so she pushes the panic and the anger to the back of ( ... )

By all accounts, he shouldn't be standing---and a lesser man probably wouldn't be, but Orson's wrestled dragons toe to toe. He's not as strong as usual, though, wrung dry. There's red swimming in his vision and then a familiar voice: Rikki, that girl Danny had adopted as one of his ducklings. Shit. So much for this not getting back to Danny and Wu. His stomach lurches as he straightens and he feels a warm gush against the hand he has shoved to his side.

Rikki sounds stressed, which he figures isn't too surprising. He is bleeding pretty industriously, unable to focus his natural healing to staunch the flow. He's bleeding chi right along with blood and damn if he has precious little of either to spare.

"Been a rough night," he rasps, letting her guide him.

Monday Afternoon: Renji Abarai squad6lt February 8 2010, 23:56:19 UTC
Renji wakes up to a room that looks vaguely like the offices that had back in Squad 4. He has no idea how he got there, but based on the level of pain that he is in right now, he can only assume that he got beat up pretty bad.

The broken katana next to him starts to jog his memory. He'd taken on the Hollow Ichigo in one-on-one combat at some point, and lost.

The last thing he remembered was the very same hollow taunting him over the comm, and a vehicle with flashing lights on top of it.

Rikki pops into his room after a couple of minutes. Seeing that he's awake, she smiles. "I think you have the record for most blood lost without dying. At least for this month. How're you feeling?"

Despite being here for about five or six months, Renji's english is still broken as ever. He never really had time to go learn it outside of his job, and all his communicator posts have had translation functions.

Despite this, he can understand enough to know that he's just been made fun of for the amount of blood he lost after the fight, and a question about whether or not he's okay.

Of course, the answer is obvious. One doesn't go through what Renji went through and not expect to be off his or her feet for at least a week, maybe more.

"Feel like just got cut in half," Renji says, trying not to scream in pain.

The Front Desk kickinsidekick February 7 2010, 03:05:33 UTC
If you're here for an interview, this is where you'll find someone to give you an interview. If you're here for a reason other than a medical emergency or want to make an appointment, someone will help you with that. Also where the non-medically trained staff works.

The man with a cape and a cowl walks in rather purposefully, heading directly for the front desk.

"Miss Barnes?"

Rikki smiles brightly at him. "That's me. And you must be Doctor Mid-Nite."

She grabs a clipboard off the front desk, and then adds "Welcome to the clinic."

Staff Break Room kickinsidekick February 7 2010, 03:07:25 UTC
This is a small oasis of relief and caffeine for the staff. Come in here to take a break, catch a nap on one of the cots, eat some food, or bitch about patients/superheroes/how expensive running a hospital is/how someone threw up on your shoes/everything.

[ Rikki is supposed to be taking her lunch break and studying for her GED at the same time. But her personal life has been chaotic, her work week was hectic, and she was out patrolling really late. So instead of eating lunch and studying, she's fallen asleep on the book she's supposed to be reading, with a half eaten sandwich in one hand. Also, she may be drooling. ]

[ Lynda walks into the room, looking around. Her shift just started and she needs some coffee. As she walks over towards the coffee pot, she catches a glance at Rikki. Oh dear. She sets some coffee on to boil before walking over to the teenager. Lynda nudges her slightly. ]

Rikki? Wake up. Sweetie, you're drooling.

[ Rikki startles when Lynda wakes her, and wipes her cheek. ] Oh man, that's embarrassing.

[ She sighs and checks the clock. Ten minutes left of her lunch break. So much for studying. ]

Vending Machines and Hallways kickinsidekick February 7 2010, 03:08:22 UTC
This is for threads that don't fit anywhere else. Random encounters, hauling boxes of medical supplies around, kicking vending machines because the sumbitch won't give you your Snickers. GO CRAZY.
