[He cannot sleep, but it is more out of the habit of odd sleeping hours than anything else. He knows he'll be able to fall asleep around dawn, so he figures that there's nothing wrong with sitting on the balcony and smoking and definitely not thinking about Laurie.

Oh, God, Laurie.

It shouldn't still bother him that Laurie is out there somewhere in the past and that now- Laurie is dead. And he thinks of Thom and Thom's power and what could happen if Laurie ever came here and he begins making his way through the pack of cigarettes he bought a few days before. They don't taste quite like Laurie's, but he is saving the one packet that he had from home for when he really needs them.]

Why, Thom! It's terribly late, isn't it?

[He's not sure of the time. Probably around three? But yeah, the assessment that it's really late is true. However, it's not what's captivating most of Thom's attention right now. He frowns slightly, looking a bit lost.]

Why are you smoking on the balcony?

[He shrugs. He hasn't thought about why he's smoking on the balcony, except being bundled up in his coat in the chill October air feels right. He wishes there was an apple orchard nearby, and the New York skyline is a poor substitute.]

Because we don't have an ashtray.

[So he should have been expecting that because his question was badly formulated. But now he doesn't know how to bring up his actual question in a better way because -- what if Andrew takes it badly or something? Thinks that Thom is butting in and that he can smoke if he wants to? But Andrew is from the forties and people didn't know that smoking gave you cancer at the time, right?

(Granted, Thom could heal Andrew if he got cancer but smoking smells terrible and he heard it made kissing kind of disgusting. Not that this part matters.)]

I meant -- why are you smoking at all? Uhm. [The wind sends some of the smoke towards Thom and he winces and moves further outside to be out of the way.]
