The main problem, Alex found, with going about every day life was that it was all so every day. The heroes and villains and those in-between might not be much intellectually, but they were at least out of the ordinary. Enough to keep Alex from getting bored. Having to walk about, among ordinary people, just reminded Alex of how turpid life could be. And, even more iirtatingly, about how he was really nothing but ordinary so far himself, all promises of powers to the contrary.

That's what Alex was thinking about as he got into line to wait for lunch. He fiddled with the change in his pocket and the more annoyed he got thinking about it, the harder he fiddled. Eventually, one of the bills flopped over the top of his pocket and fell onto the floor.

"Excuse me, please," Alex said, out of habit, to the guy in front of him and bent over to pick it up.

Roger looked over his shoulder when he heard the young man behind him speak, watching him duck down to pick up his money - it kinda reminded him of waiting in line back in his highschool's cafeteria. If it'd happened on a regular day, Roger would've probably threatened the smaller nerdy guy to pick up the money and give it back, claiming it was his own.

"Don't sweat it, man." Roger lifted his hand behind his shoulder for a quick moment before looking forward again. Somehow, thinking of his school days made him wonder why the guy behind him suddenly seemed familiar. The initial response to that was 'no way, he'd have to have traveled from another dimension like me' - but it suddenly wasn't such an unlikely thought anymore. He figured there was no harm in asking, so he turned half-way back with an arched eyebrow, loosely pointing his finger at Alex.

"Don't I know ya?"

Alex fetched the bill off the ground by pinching it between his middle and index finger. He shifted his centre of gravity back onto his heel to pull himself back to standing and looked passively at the other guy, rolling his question around in his head to see if it fit.

He considered himself to be a fairly observant person when it came to the people around him. Usually this disguised by the fact that he didn't care much about what he observed. But the details flowed into his head undaunted and stayed for a while, most of the time, ready to be retrieved if they ever did become useful. And now, Alex's brain was kicking up a memory of a video on the network one afternoon of a young man in a red mask whose voice sounded quite a bit like this one.

"I'm not sure if we have met formerly," he said, a smile playing in one corner of his mouth. He lifted both his hands up to his face and circled them around his eyes in a mock of a mask before letting them fall back to his sides. "But I believe I've seen you somewhere before."

Roger raised his eyebrows when Alex made the gesture, turning fully around. He had many times mentioned that one of the main reasons he was in the Initiative was in hopes of getting himself some fame and some glory - but being so easily recognized without the mask didn't really seem like a good sign at this point.

But screw it - he could do without the thing. The Initiative wasn't around, and neither was his family. As far as he knew? The only thing he had to worry about was whether this guy wanted to start trouble. His mouth curved into a lopsided not-quite-smile. "Oh, yeah - on the communicators, right?"

He looked back at the beginning of the line, checking if there had been any progress. Roger returned his attention to the stranger. "Did I talk t'you there, then?"
