Daniel had spent a lot of time working and staying off the bottle (though the occasional joint found its way into his hands. Tank was a bad influence). He had been relatively calmer since his spirit walk, even taking up meditation and training to get into better shape. Dan had a clear head on his shoulders, working once again on Archie and making improvements on his costume. There were enough capes on the street, so he did not have to go patrolling every night ( ... )

A silent stare for a greeting. It might seem cold to anyone else, but Rorschach was merely looking at him. Thinking of how to say something apart from what he had come here to say. A "hello"? No. Not from his mouth. The vigilante's gaze faltered with the mask's patterns as they shifted, slow and fluid.

"... Hnh." Rorschach used his foot to shut the door, taking a few more steps in. Half expecting Tank to leap out from around the corner with a machete. Fully prepared to handle that situation, as well.

Standing awkwardly for a long few seconds, Rorschach abruptly reached into a pocket and retrieved a sugarcube. Lifted the mask and popped it in, almost like he was uncomfortable.

He wanted to tell Dan what had happened between him and Laurie. It seemed inconsequential now, but. A part of him that was still fairly normal felt it was somehow right. But how could he even bring it up? The thought was unnerving, almost disgusting to the vigilante ( ... )

Rorschach was lucky that Tank Girl was out. Daniel was trying as hard as he could to stay out of their feud. He saw Tank Girl go off on him live on the comm, and he knew that Rorschach got the stuffing beat out of him by thirty-something year old woman. It was vicious and hard being stuck between two looming and frankly frightening people. Over all, he thought he was doing a good job of not getting into it ( ... )

Just more of that wordless stare for a few moments. Rorschach's hands had slowly returned to his pockets, as they usually were, cocooning himself in that battered trench coat. Making small talk was never a strong point.

And really, he wished he could be more comfortable around Dan. Like old times. Some invisible wall had gone up ever since... since what? He and his old partner hadn't done any actual investigating in weeks. Possibly a month or more. And yet they were both in this vast city. Daniel was... a friend? Maybe the only person Rorschach had ever put as much trust in as he had. Care. Concern.

"... Uhm. Fine."

Rorschach decided not to bring Miss Juspeczyk up. She was old news, would only start conflict, possibly cause Dan even more emotional trauma. He didn't need that, and Rorschach didn't want to deal with it.

"Just stopped by to check in."

Pause.

"... Can't be too careful."
