Selina had chosen a silk chiffon gown in a deep shade of plum. Low-cut, but not too daring. It floated when she strolled into the banquet hall. A beautiful woman without an escort, perfectly at ease in the formal surrounds.

She gave the room a once-over -- nice, but not nearly as ostentatious as she might have expected from a demonic host -- snagging a glass of champagne for herself. She'd hold off on the bar for now. Nice to have it as an option as the night wore on.

She was a little curious who would show up the the event, she had to admit.

That definitely looked to be water he was drinking. Not surprising, considering all the jokes that had been made about his alcoholism before he'd arrived. Selina drained her own glass, handing it off to a passing waiter.

"Do you make a habit of building stalkers for yourself, Tony?" she asked him.

Tony only chuckled. "I never found it necessary, no," he said simply, before passing on his still half-full glass to the waiter. It would probably be better if he drank as little as possible here. After all, a party spent using the restroom would hardly be the ideal situation.

"The armor is certainly something that hadn't been planned," he said loftily. He wouldn't explain it further, for certain. Fighting Whiplash in the middle of a storm had certainly been playing with fate to begin with. It felt like so long ago now, more like ages, rather than years.

"Mmm." A tilt of her head as she studied him. "That's right. Your plans tend to involve children fighting your battles for you, doesn't it?" Her smile was definitely chilly at this point.

Tony's gaze hardened, but the statement didn't phase him. "No, my plans tend to involve using what resources are available to me and doing what's best for everyone," he said smoothly. Tony wasn't ashamed, and really, if he was being questioned by someone who didn't know the entire story, then it wouldn't be worth explaining further, to him.

"Yes, I've met some of your resources." Selina eyes were sharp enough to cut. "Seen the before and after of you little Initiative project. I'm not impressed."

Another circling waiter came by with fresh champagne. She took a glass with a nod, but didn't drink.

"I'll put it quite simply. I don't give a damn about whatever power and position you might have had back home. You screw around with those kids, I'll make your life here a living hell." She smiled her best polite little socialite smile. "Are we clear, Tony?"

When she reached out for the glass, he simply shrugged. "Its not meant to be impressive," he said coldly. Tony watched her, and only his mouth gave any indication of his growing frustration, which was now leveled into a hard line, instead of the classic, flirtatious and common Tony Stark smile.

The only acknowledgment he gave to her threat, however was a slow, purposeful nod. He couldn't say that he wouldn't screw around with people, because he had, and he was perfectly willing to do so again, if the time called for it. He felt remorse, but that was only reserved for time by himself, for privacy, not for others to see. That was why he was the choice of the government. He had been willing to do it, not because he had agreed with the proposal they had brought forward, but because he knew deep in himself that if he hadn't, it would have been a lot worse.

"I'll keep that in mind," he said loftily, tipping his head upwards, now.

"You do that," she replied, voice sweet as honey. Glancing over his shoulder, she saw a familiar head of hair: Knives, escorting some woman. Huh, that was... unexpected.

"If you'll excuse me, I see someone I simply must catch up with." She smiled, dipped her glass towards him in an odd sort of salute. "It was lovely meeting you in person, Tony."

And with that, she moved across the hall, dress flowing along behind her. Selina Kyle always did know how to make an exit.
