Julian followed her into the room and latched the door behind him. He still didn't know what to think of all this. The cat she'd picked was okay, he supposed. It hadn't scratched or bitten either of them, and despite all the mewling it was doing Sofia had fallen in love as soon as she saw it. Still, once the door was closed he leaned back against it and put his left hand in his pocket. His right arm was still in its sling, but although there were still hints of bruises and cuts on his face, his black eye was starting to heal.
"It's locked. You better let it out before it yells the place down."
Sofia laughed as she opened the carrier down and the kitten shot out into the middle of the room. Paused. Then scurried under the sofa to peek out at that them.
"You'd yell if you had been in that carrier. I'm glad they hadn't named him already in the shelter."
Julian glanced at the place where the kitten had disappeared, and came away from the door to lean down and get a better look. This was definitely going well.
"Yeah, it's real institutional of 'em." Finally spying a pair of bright hazel eyes, he frowned back at them and sighed. "What're you gonna call him?"

She tossed her answer casually over her shoulder. "I'm calling him Hellion."
