Steve felt his back bump up against the brick wall behind him, giving him a little start. He certainly had gotten himself into a pinch, hadn't he?

"N...No, I'm afraid I don--"

"Can it!" the scraggly, painted man snapped. He certainly was making quite a display at aggressiveness! Steve hadn't seen so many skulls on one person since Juriaka (though those had been actual skulls, not elaborate tattoos).

The man continued, waving his (unimpressive, frankly, but no doubt lethal) gun in Steve's face.

"Just empty your pockets and give up the goods!"

Steve grimaced, waving his hands best he could with them pressed so closed to his body. Why wouldn't he understand?

"Sir, please...I told you already, I don't have anything of value to you! You mus--"

The hooligan clicked the hammer back practically pressing the muzzle against Steve's forehead.

Oh, dear...I'm in a great deal of danger, aren't I?!

Batwoman?

An alias, no doubt. Most of the famed hunters in the galaxy did the same, though the motivations of a bounty hunter and a hero were likely different, given her reply. How noble! Perhaps a little financially irresponsible, possibly, but noble nonetheless. Still, "Superhero Steve" was probably going to be put on the backburner. No offense to the civilians needing saving, of course.

"Ah, android, specifically," he corrected, giving the hand one final, friendly squeeze before releasing it. "A pleasure, regardless! I've always enjoyed meeting new people. It's just a bit more exciting now, I think. I have so much more in common with everyone now!"

"Android," she repeats. "Okay, I'll remember that. Sorry, I hope I didn't - offend you or something."

Last time she'd offended an android she'd almost ended up through a wall. She was pretty sure it wasn't going to happen this time, but you never could tell.

"I'm glad you're enjoying your time here," she says. "It's always good to see someone settling in without too much kicking and screaming."

Steve shakes his head vigorously at the notion of offense, smiling brightly. It was the least of his problems, truly. Though with the level of technology being what it was on that planet, he was worried he'd get lumped in with a lot of things very much unlike him in ways, save for being mechanical. He had to have a little dignity, and a great deal more pride for being an android. A specially made one, to boot!

"Well, it's not the first time I've been in a shocking situation," he admitted with a light laugh. "Perhaps the most strange by distance alone, but by no means something to fret about entirely. I've been told I'll be able to return directly to my important mission without interruption, which is...well, odd, I think, but no less a relief! My primary worry was inconveniencing my good friends and allies."

"Time here is a little bit messed up, yeah," she says. "I'm not entirely sure I buy the explanation, but people who've been here longer than me and know more do, so I guess it's true."

A police car turns the corner, and she grins at him.

"There's your ride. Which means I'm going to scoot. You know what to do? Got everything you need?"

The colorful lights grab Steve's attention rather quickly, and it takes a double-take to get him to look back at the Batwoman. Oh -- she was leaving? That was unfortunate! Steve rather liked talking to her...so helpful! But then, that's what heroes ought to be, yes?

"Ah, I believe so," he said, a hand drawing up to scratch the back of that mess of hair of his. He nodded. "I will certainly do my best, as you explained it."

The hand dropped, and he bowed most graciously, beaming at her when he straightened back up.

"Thank you very much for the rescue, Miss Batwoman! I'm very grateful - and lucky, too, I suspect!"

"Got to get back to patrolling," she says. "And the police will take care of you."

He did seem to have things more or less under control, and the police in this town tended to be pretty good at their jobs. He'd be all right, she was sure.

"Just be careful on the streets at night, okay?" she says. "You need to avoid the parts of town where stuff like this is going to happen. Vigilantes can't be everywhere."
