There were many reasons Dr. John Watson liked Sherlock Holmes, he reminded himself, forcefully. Many. His propensity for demanding John's attention right there and then no matter the hour, however, was not one of them.

Wearily opening an eye to check the time (Less than two minutes since he'd been woken by a text message he'd decided could definitely wait until a sociable hour), he groaned and slid out of bed, raking a hand through his hair irritably as he slumped bare-footed towards the front door.

Once there, he opened it without a single snapped curse or muttered insult- though it was entirely obvious from his bed-ruffled hair and rumpled pyjamas that he would have been quite happy with another hour or three of sleep, thank you very much.

"Sherlock," he said tightly, offering the other man a forced smile. "Do you own a watch?"

John shook his head mock-irritably, dunking his biscuit in his tea as slowly as he could manage while keeping up a decent enough façade to hide his amusement.

"Make yourself at home. I'll be out in ten," he said eventually, devouring the soggy biscuit with obvious pleasure. "...Actually, come to think of it, please don't. I know what you do at home."

And with that, he gulped down the last of his tea and slipped through to the bathroom for his morning ablutions.

The boredom crept up upon him instantly. For a moment he listened for the noises in the bathroom, and then gave up in a huff, pulling himself off the chair. He tossed the newspapers over - neither of them today's, or even yesterday's. John had obviously flipped through the first three pages, and then to the back where the sports, crossword and sudoku were located. Boring, boring, boring.

Next, he stalked into the kitchen, opening up the fridge. Milk, cheese, eggs... There was less food in John's fridge than the man had put into his. He smirked slightly at that, and stomped back into the living room, up to the window, leaning to look down toward the street. The sun had risen enough by now that it was easy to pick out everything below.

God he hated waiting.
