( he's used to being without batman, by this point. but that doesn't mean he enjoys it. after grayson's death he'd been incapacitated, and there had been no choice. since returning to active duty, however, he'd keenly missed his partner's presence.

but instead of admitting this, he was taking care of those mixed emotions in an entirely healthy way--by stalking him. )

[ w..ell you don't survive on the street in a costume for long if you aren't the type to pick up on tails pretty quickly. There's somebody lurking back there, which makes the next question a bit of a no brainer. Two or three real possibilities, and only one of them really makes him want to quirk a real grin like Nightwing would. In spite of everything.

He changes trajectories and drops the line he's holding, spreading out the wings and gliding a little before he dives towards an alcove that should be pretty invisible from the angle he's suspecting.

( he wasn't sure whether he was insulted or entertained by the game grayson was going to make of this. on one hand, it was a waste of time, and the moment his presence had been noticed he should have quit. on the other, it was a challenge, and members of this family are hardly good at backing down from those.

so he follows, at least until batman drops towards the alcove and out of sight. it's both frustrating and exciting, in a way, having to stop short and re-align himself, looking and listening for traces of him.

it's not difficult, however, and in the next few moments he's off again, diving down towards the same spot. )

[ just as planned. And maybe it's not a bad sign after all that he's willing to play along, even just for a minute. Now all he really needs to do is wait for the right moment and lunge for the nearest snatch of cape. Or maybe an arm. ]
