Superheroing or not, timing is everything.

Jaime wasn't even on active patrol; he was flying low while he finished off his coffee (he was more apt to spill the higher he got) before rocketing out of town and on to class.

...Well, that was the plan before Scarab pinged a car making a break to beat a light it was definitely not going to beat...and the cyclist right in its path. No time to think, just give Khaji Da the reins and hope nobody minds getting lightly showered with a little coffee along the way.

"LOOK OUT!"

A pointless-yet-impulsive cry as the Blue Beetle rockets forward, arms out and fingers elongated to snatch doomed cyclist from doom's clutches. His speed's a bit too much to be a very comfortable escape, but it is timely - just not for that poor bike. Jaime has to arc up to decelerate, and a peripheral glimpse at their forms from a glassy building's reflection causes him to double-take.

"...Holy crap!"

It's one thing to be absolutely certain you are going to end up as someone's new fender, but to suddenly be picked up is another. Jaime is lucky enough that Phoenix is in too much shock as the car screeches to a halt below them, the bike a twisted mess a few yards away, to realize exactly how many feet off the ground he is.

Then he does and there's blind panic and it's good that Jaime is wearing his armor or he'd have have bruises from how hard Phoenix grabs him.

"W-whoa! Objection!"

He's not fighting to be put down, but the guy may have lost all of his badass cred in one good shot, eyes squeezed shut and muttering under his breath, waiting until the ground is firmly under his feet before he releases his hold.

The heights problem doesn't become completely apparent until after Jaime realized just who he had in-hand.

"Oh, sh-- Hold on, hold on!" Not that Nick needed telling...Jaime hesitated, looking for a place to set him down that wasn't currently getting flooded with spectators. Hopefully Nick didn't mind a few embarrassing camera phone shots floating around the Internet for a while afterward.

It was a very short ride, really, though the urgent need to get down made it drag out much longer than it was, but Nick's feet settle on concrete about a block-and-a-half away from the danger. Jaime remains hovering above, hands hesitating just in case there's need for him to reach out, keep him from, he doesn't know...fainting?

"Sorry, sorry..." He'd been repeating that for a little bit. "You're okay, right?"

It felt like an hour, but as soon as his feet hit the ground, reaching for the stop sign a few feet away. At that point, it was just a matter of realizing who his rescuer had been.

"Blue Beetle?" he gasped, running his fingers through his hair and trying to let the rush of thoughts catch up with the rest of him as he tried to calm himself.

Oh, right, he'd been asked a question.

"Fine. My bike?"
