She might expect that from an old lady, not so much from a guy who looks like he's 30, tops, with floppy hair and expressive hands and wearing a bowtie.
Also, he's definitely giving off that sick-making aura thing that she started sensing not long after she got here, but Ariadne has been acclimating herself to it since the run-in with that Dexter guy. Not that she's figured out what it is yet...]
I hope there aren't any leeches in there. [Because, ew, leeches.]
Reply
Not today I'm afraid. Just duck, geese, and the occasional toad. Were you looking for a leech?
Reply
Were the ducks saying anything particularly interesting? [Well, if he's crazy, she should probably play along in case he's the murderous kind of crazy.]

[A small duck quacked along as though it was completely agreeing with the Doctor and adding a bit of its own commentary]

Who knew. Maybe this bloke was another wizard freshly arrived. There were bound to be a few in existence that he wasn't previously acquainted with in these parts. The porter couldn't really have it in that much for acquaintances of Harry Potter.]
Giving you a bit of lip, are they.

Nah, just a bit lonely. People tend to overlook them unless they're letting their loud children and animals chase them around. Although the running does make a good bit of exercise.
[A nearby goose honks as though to say that is a complete lie.]

Seems like the feather heads could use it, eh? Poor planning to be a plump fowl 'round Christmas time, I expect.

These aren't the sort to greet the dinner table come Christmas. They're for companionship and environment not leftovers.

I have enough bread for another hand here. They're all remarkably well behaved today.
Reply
[It only becomes apparent to her a moment later that he was offering.]
Oh wait, were you offering me some?
Reply
I'm not sure the bread would be to your liking, but the crowd seems to like it, and wouldn't mind if you tossed a bit towards the back.

It's only her damn luck that the lunatic is already there. Don't get her wrong, she actually likes the crazy guy, but seriously - there is something just OFF with him that makes it hard to take anything he says or does seriously.
Case in point.
But there's actually a kind of neat composition thing going on so instead of saying hello, she plops down on the grass, pulls out her sketchpad, and starts sketching.]

So she doesn't even notice the bread by her toe. At least not until there's a quacking nudge at it that startles her, making her jump and drop the sketchpad.]
What the!?!

How are they?
I’ve always wondered but I’ve never been sure how to start a conversation with them -- it’s sad, everyone wants to see them, but no one ever bothers to talk to them.
Reply
That's the problem with most, so busy rushing around forgetting to enjoy the world around them even if it is a rather dull blue ball.
Reply
I don't think it's boring at all.
Reply
Nonono, not boring just very...linear.
