This had to happen. chesstotem August 21 2011, 21:35:58 UTC
[All Ariadne wants is a quiet spot to eat her lunch. And maybe feed some birds her sandwich crusts. But of course there's some crazy guy out in the pond, monopolizing the ducks by talking to them.

She might expect that from an old lady, not so much from a guy who looks like he's 30, tops, with floppy hair and expressive hands and wearing a bowtie.

Also, he's definitely giving off that sick-making aura thing that she started sensing not long after she got here, but Ariadne has been acclimating herself to it since the run-in with that Dexter guy. Not that she's figured out what it is yet...]

I hope there aren't any leeches in there. [Because, ew, leeches.]

[The Doctor spins around to find the owner of the voice. He's only slightly confused as he lifts one foot out of the water and then the next checking for said leeches.]

Not today I'm afraid. Just duck, geese, and the occasional toad. Were you looking for a leech?

Uh, no. [What a weird guy. A weird guy at the center of a hazy black... thing that she can't quite look at directly.]

Were the ducks saying anything particularly interesting? [Well, if he's crazy, she should probably play along in case he's the murderous kind of crazy.]

Hm, well, there's been a large black dog chasing them around lately and that's caused a bit of unpleasantness.

[A small duck quacked along as though it was completely agreeing with the Doctor and adding a bit of its own commentary]

[The simple facts of wizard life had made the Doctor's little display close to run of the mill for George. Really, the only thing that could have made it a bit more familiar were if he were doing it in a women's nightgown. Still, he knew enough to knew it should be off by muggle standards, so George couldn't help but make a little detour over to the edge of the water.

Who knew. Maybe this bloke was another wizard freshly arrived. There were bound to be a few in existence that he wasn't previously acquainted with in these parts. The porter couldn't really have it in that much for acquaintances of Harry Potter.]

Giving you a bit of lip, are they.

[The Doctor tosses a bit of bread to a quaking duck and surprising enough the group doesn't fight over the morsel. Turning to the voice he grins and shakes his head]

Nah, just a bit lonely. People tend to overlook them unless they're letting their loud children and animals chase them around. Although the running does make a good bit of exercise.

[A nearby goose honks as though to say that is a complete lie.]

[George shoves his hands in his pockets, eyeing that goose almost suspiciously for a moment before turning back to the man with a grin.]

Seems like the feather heads could use it, eh? Poor planning to be a plump fowl 'round Christmas time, I expect.

[He offers the boy a bit of a frown]

These aren't the sort to greet the dinner table come Christmas. They're for companionship and environment not leftovers.

[Stopping by the lake, Erin smiles at the funny man feeding the ducks. It's something she would do, only on the shore. But she has no bread of her own, so she just watches him quietly, not wanting to disturb him but willing to talk if he notices her.]

[He notices her. He always notices unless of course it's beneath his notice, but few things are]

I have enough bread for another hand here. They're all remarkably well behaved today.

You do? That's nice.

[It only becomes apparent to her a moment later that he was offering.]

Oh wait, were you offering me some?

[He looks at the bag and then at her]

I'm not sure the bread would be to your liking, but the crowd seems to like it, and wouldn't mind if you tossed a bit towards the back.

[The one thing her art teachers liked to stress was practice, practice, practice. And since Cassie needs to get better, she needs to be able to get the things in her head on paper exactly, she needs that practice. So with Bot at her side, she decides to head to the park for some speed sketching.

It's only her damn luck that the lunatic is already there. Don't get her wrong, she actually likes the crazy guy, but seriously - there is something just OFF with him that makes it hard to take anything he says or does seriously.

Case in point.

But there's actually a kind of neat composition thing going on so instead of saying hello, she plops down on the grass, pulls out her sketchpad, and starts sketching.]

[He waits until she's deep into her drawing before innocently tossing a scrap of bread at her and nodding at the smallest duckling to go fetch it.]

[Now that she has the outlines down, she' working in the details from memory. Her visions don't last long so she has to be able to rely on her memory of them to be able to get them down the way she wants to.

So she doesn't even notice the bread by her toe. At least not until there's a quacking nudge at it that startles her, making her jump and drop the sketchpad.]

What the!?!

He wants you to join us. Socialization is the key for any young species.

[ She’s making her way through the park, as she does almost every day, when she has to stop. Even Luna’s not prepared for the sight of a random man conversing with the ducks. Soon enough, though, she’s walking up to join him. ]

How are they?

I’ve always wondered but I’ve never been sure how to start a conversation with them -- it’s sad, everyone wants to see them, but no one ever bothers to talk to them.

[He offers a sagely nod]

That's the problem with most, so busy rushing around forgetting to enjoy the world around them even if it is a rather dull blue ball.

[ Why, she almost looks offended! ]

I don't think it's boring at all.

[He frowns a bit more realizing he may have insulted her which he seems to do a lot lately]

Nonono, not boring just very...linear.
