Likewise, a mercenary captain was never really off the clock. Though he wasn't being paid lucrative amounts of cash for these jobs, Geddoe was getting enough out of them to continue. And cultivating a powerful ally who happened to rank high in the City's law enforcement had it's advantages as well.

Still, sometimes a drink was just a drink. Unwinding to a point was always Geddoe's aim when he went to the bar about ten minutes' walk from the MAC where his sword was not unwelcome. If he didn't want to relax, he would be out in his favorite empty lot sparring with someone. He glanced up at the creak of the heavy door and nodded in a gesture of invitation when he recognized Jack in the half-light.

Damn taverns, always needing their ambiance.

"Pull up a chair," he murmured as Jack came in. "I recommend the pale ale."

"Thanks." Jack plunked himself down and ordered accordingly. He was silent as the drink was poured and he took his first long swallow. "Not bad."

He set the glass down and turned to Geddoe. "How you holding up?"

Whether or not the bartender recognized an officer of the law, he didn't show it. Most of the bar was populated with fairly earthy sorts, no high-society wine-drinkers here. And blues on the jukebox.

"Fine," Geddoe shrugged. "It's been quiet for a long enough stretch, that helps." His eyebrow twitched a little. "You look like you're still fairly busy, though."

It helped that Jack was still in plainclothes, as always- jeans, black shirt, brown leather jacket, sunglasses, the same thing he'd worn to the office today. Despite being with the police for over a year and regularly participating in rather spectacular crises, Jack had so far managed to avoid becoming an Import celebrity like Tony Stark or Zatanna. Considering the... fanfiction that tended to get written about those people, this was probably for the best.

"Yeah, there's a lot to follow up on with the riots and the Tear Drinker attack," he said, looking around. "And there's new kidnappings to worry about, most of our wanted list is still at large, the Joker's been more active on the Network... Well." He took another drink. "You know how it is."
