Should Fred find herself randomly wandering through a particular section of the MAC, she mind find herself in a hallway flooded with the screeching sound of a smoke detector. Following the sound further will bring her to the open door of an apartment. Peeking through that open door she'll find a nearly five foot tall turtle impossibly perched one of the upper corners of the room. He's flapping an empty pizza box at the offended smoke detector in a vain attempt to get the the damn thing to stop making noise.

Fred winced when she heard the screeching noise, though after a second or two she realized what it was. She moved cautiously down the hall, reaching the edge of the apartment door and peering inside for a second, just long enough to spot the giant green turtle man apparently, clinging to the wall and waving at his smoke detector.

She immediately ducked back into the hallway, pressing her back against the wall. What?

After a few seconds and no attack coming, and the screeching still happening, she cautiously peered back into the room, hunched slightly over.

"Are you effing kidding me?! Shut off! There isn't any smoke! Come on, man work with me here!"

Why yes, the giant green turtle man is attempting to reason with an inanimate object.

She watched for a few more seconds, her lips slightly pursed, before she edged a bit more into view and pointed at the device.

"There's a little clear button on it, probably on the bottom somewhere, if you push it the alarm will stop."

And then she kind of mostly hid again because...giant turtle.

Fred was a bit surprised at how empty the apartment she was peering into was. Maybe it was a newcomer, or maybe it was an example apartment. It looked even emptier than hers and she'd only been here a few days. She almost wanted to go inside and poke around some, but if it was someone's apartment they probably wouldn't like that.

She certainly wouldn't like it in her apartment, anyway.

So she turned around to go and suddenly found a boy with a laundry basket standing behind her. "Oh!" She gave a startled noise of surprise and vanished into thin air! Although there was a very obvious 'thump noise of her backing into the wall a second later.

Fred was just a bit more jumpy than everyone else at the moment, really. Part of her was still convinced this was all a demonic trick, despite everything, and she was going to get collared and called a cow again.

"What does?" She frowned at the boy as he spoke, though of course he couldn't see. Not that her initial surprise was gone she pushed off the wall. "And I'm sorry, you just surprise me, that's all."

Somewhere on the third floor, a door opened, just before Fred was going to pass by it.

And a large pile of books spilled out into the hallway. There were quite a lot of them, from textbooks on acoustic engineering to harlequin romances, and most of them were in Chinese or English. Tripping out behind the books was a very tall Asian woman.

"I knew I shouldn't have kept those by the-- oh." Maggie looked up at the young woman she recalled speaking to via the Network a week or two ago. Her face turned quite red. "I'm so sorry."

Books falling was one of those sounds that Fred knew very well, so it didn't surprise her as much as some of the other things she'd come across today. She just sort of watched as the piles tumbled out, her eyes a bit wide.

When the woman stumbled out, Fred peered up at her but shook her head at the apology. "Oh, it's fine. You should see Wesley's library after I've spent the day in there sometimes." She smiled faintly. "You were on the phones the other day weren't you? You need a hand with all this?"

"Uh, yes, I'm Maggie." Maggie nodded politely, and started to stack the books up. "It was Miss Fred, wasn't it? There's really no need to bother..." And then her eyes show some interest. "You know someone with a library?"

"Right, nice to meet you Maggie. In person, I mean. And just Fred is fine. Or Winifred, I guess, if you like that sort of name..." As she spoke, Fred leaned down to pick up a few of the books, reading the titles absently.

"Well, not a library. More like an office. But with more books on demons than I've heard of anywhere, really, aside from maybe a Watcher's office..."

Kaylee'd been out most of the day, so she was happily worn out as she headed back to her apartment. But she was never too tired to go say hello to a new face, so when she spotted exactly that, she sidled up and waved enthusiastically. "Hey, there!"

Fred was peering out one of the windows at the city when she heard someone calling, and she turned to see a woman she didn't recognize approaching her. Well...she looked friendly enough, at least.

Fred pushed away from the wall and offered a little wave. "Hi there."

"Ain't seen ya 'round here," Kaylee mused. "New, I'm guessin'? M'name's Kaylee."

"That's one way to look at it, sure. I'm Fred." She smiled some. "I just got brought here a week or so ago. Not my first dimensional trip but the first one that didn't work out terribly."

[ Ding! The elevator doors open and Tonks steps off. It's her floor and she's on her way to her apartment. With her, she has a brown paper bag filled with groceries.

Her bag is a little too over-filled and she takes all of five steps before the bottom gives way. Fruit, boxes, and everything else go falling to the floor. ]

Fred was coming around the corner when she watched an orange roll by. She leaned down to scoop it up, then paused to catch an apple too, and finally spotted the disaster that was Tonks's grocery bag.

She put on a friendly, slightly nervous smile as she approached. "Need a hand?"

Tonks takes out her wand. The string of curses she mutters is impressive and entirely British. "I don't know what I was thinking. I should've just shrunk everything down instead of just cramming it all."

She flicks her wand at the bag and does a quick repairing charm. Tonks looks up at Fred. "Do you see a jar of peanut butter rolling around?"

Fred was honestly a bit distracted by Tonks repairing her bag with a magic word, her eyes a bit wide, really. Magic back home did not work like that in any respect, frankly, so she didn't quite know how to react to it.

It took her a few seconds to realize the other girl was talking to her again, and she blinked in surprise. "Oh! Right. Okay..." A slow circle was turned until she spotted the jar of peanut butter and scooped it up.

"Here it is!"
