disapproving teacher face... in_likeflynn July 21 2011, 09:23:59 UTC
The bar was a good find. In a similar vein to Julian, Kurt had long developed a talent for finding acceptable bars that served acceptable beers and were accepting of odd individuals. Coincidentally, this was one of a few such bars in the City, almost completely free of folks side-eying and offering a small variety of foreign beers.

He stopped by some time after supper. Having admitted openly that he now thought often of the past, of home... Ach, well. He was homesick, and he ordered a bottle with a German label and sat down and remembered various nice things. There was the occasional foray into people-watching, and then...

And then he spotting a familiar face. Rather out-of-place for the setting.

He moved, taking the bottle with him and making his way back to Julian's corner and trying to look disapproving and non-threatening at the same time. "Mr. Keller, pray tell... What are you doing?"

"Sehr gut." Another quick smile, and he led the way to the door with a 'pardon me' or two, rattling off conversation about this plan as they went along. "Only a quick jaunt to a neighborhood where criminal activity is higher, and it is a good time of night. Perhaps early, but I am sure some must be foolhardy enough for the hour..."

Julian barely glanced back at the bar as he followed Nightcrawler out. He didn't really know what he was doing, but maybe finding criminals in a way that was actually productive would be a good use of his time. It'd get his mind off the weekend, anyway. He looked at Kurt.

"I'm not so used to this version of the City yet," he admitted. He hadn't been to New York at all in a while, and things were in different places in this reality. "Where are we going?"

"Ah, Herr Keller. It is not so different, and our destination..." He had left the doorway of the bar and started down the street, by now, and turned sharply to grab the young man's arm. "It is only a hop, skip, and jump away."

Well, it was more like one 'port away, but who was counting? The pair reappeared on top of a small, storied building overlooking an alley. The area was predominately residential, but there was prominent nightlight up a couple of blocks.

"This would be a good place to mug somebody, hm? Keep your eyes and ears open."

Teleporting. That was something Julian rarely did. It was kind of disorienting, but damn if it wasn’t fast. He looked around, getting his bearings and recognising one of the seedier parts of town. There was something looking like a club in the distance and he frowned, moving over the rooftop and crouching near the edge to se over.

“You’re right,” he said. “This isn’t the friendliest place in the world. D’you think-“

He paused, having spotted movement below him. He couldn’t make it out at first, and was about to pass it off as just some animal shifting a trash can around, but then he caught a second movement somewhere behind the first, and realised it was more than one person. As his eyes adjusted he saw that they were dressed for the night, all dark coverings and gang mentality. And they looked to be heading towards the alley opposite, closer to the club. Julian signalled to indicate he’d follow them, and rose up into the air to tail their progress.

Julian's signal was greeted with a nod and, as the boy moved to fly after their possible villains du jour, Kurt kept a reasonable distance. After all, if the Hellion had something to get out of his system, it was hardly fair to be in the way of it. He simply hopped over the ledge of the building, sinking into a shadow as he crept along the wall. Julian could have the lead. He'd follow if need be.

Julian watched while the gang moved, keeping his distance. Sticking to the shadows were a little irrelevant for a guy whose powers made him glow green, so when the gang stopped he landed on a roof space and let the glow vanish. The group below seemed to be waiting for something, and Julian took the opportunity to look up and find out where Kurt was. He frowned since at first he couldn’t spot him; and then he saw something moving along the building. He had to give Nightcrawler credit; that was stealthy as ( ... )
