WHO: Tom & Max WHERE: A CAFE WHEN: AFTER SEEING WICKED WARNINGS: SO MANY WORDS SUMMARY: Tom takes his JSA sis to the best show ever, in her opinion FORMAT: Quick, because I'm slow enough as it is.
[Maxine had never seen it in NYC (or the City, whatever) before. She's seen bigger productions, but never the "real" thing. Seeing it here was possibly the best gift she could ever ask for.
The company was a plus, too. Especially since he didn't seem to mind her blathering on about it beforehand and afterward and even appeared to enjoy the show! Then again, it could always just be her not seeing things correctly, assuming that his enthusiasm wasn't just for her benefit.
Once it was all said and done, she'd been more than happy to keep talking and talking (and talking) to Tom, about the show and everything else. It was a good thing she chose a smoothie instead of coffee, wasn't it?]
Even better! [Her face is a little red, flushed from all the talking. And maybe just a little bit of embarrassment.] I mean, it was really great, don't you think? Well, you already said you enjoyed it. So you don't have to answer again. It's okay. Um, but. Yeah. I loved it! And I got to spend some more time with you, so that was fantastic.
[Really, he was happy that she was happy. She deserved it, and he missed this kind of thing, really. Even if there were others around here that were from the same universe as they were, it was harder to talk to them. He could just talk to her or hang out.]
I'm really sorry I haven't been around more, Max. I figure that we could at least make this a regular thing from now on. I mean, how often did we have time back home to do this kind of stuff?
Kinda hard not to, I think. I can't imagine not having a good time with you, actually. [HA. SHE'S TALKING SO FAST THAT YOU CAN'T COMMENT ON THAT.] We should do something like that again sometime. But you can pick something you like?
Stop apologizing, already! I told you it was fine, didn't I? You don't need to keep it up. Beside that, you're here now. [She smiles a little, trying not to seem too hopeful about it -- just in case he changes his mind. She doesn't want to be a bother. She's so use to being a bother...] We did at the beginning. A bit, anyway, remember? That was kind of nice.
I'll be sure to pick something you'll enjoy, then. [He looks down, smiling as she tells him to stop apologizing. He's honestly relieved that she isn't too upset about it, and it seemed like she was settling well. Hell, she had a better job than he could hope to get.] Things were pretty good then, huh? Too bad it's been kind of a nonstop fight before we came here.
