[it's easy to track Rose down, that aura and all, so Eridan thinks he has a chance of taking her by surprise. she can't be invincible, after all, and if she can't see the blast coming then there's probably little she can do about it.

this reasoning is what has him carefully placing himself near the hospital, hiding as best he can, until he sees her back. then he aims his wand and fires, and briefly wonders if grimdarkness makes one's blood black, and what that would look like pooled on the concrete. it keeps him from letting out a dramatic battle cry like he wants to, at least.]

[ Rose is too caught up in her own thoughts to notice him sneak up on her and that was her mistake. she hears -- feels the magic stirring and whirls around, not before catching the blunt of the blast.

she's bleeding. red blood through the fabric of her clothes and her hands touch the wound, dipping painted fingers in before looking over at him.

a smile forms on her lips and her Thorns are appearing in her hands and without another word, she's sending a crackling strike of black magic back in his direction, swift and explosive. ]
