Querl had lifted a hand to knock at the door, but was surprised when it swung open. But then, his surprise turned to droll humor, then to dry words, and his green eyes went to Stephen. "Greetings, Dr. Strange. You sound much more level-toned in person." He curved his green lips in an odd form of a smile. Odd for the lack of warmth, but rather, a sly and witty mark.

Smiling thinly, Strange stepped aside to let Querl into the house. "I believe I'll overlook any implications to the contrary and take that as a compliment."

He didn't seem like all that unpleasant of a fellow, really. Not in person. And even if he did, it would be unfair to judge this early on into their meeting. After all, exactly how many times had Stephen encountered creatures from parallel worlds who had been trying to accommodate him in their grandest of customs, only to have it appear overtly hostile to a human? If international relations were difficult, that of differing species across differing dimensions were damn near impossible. "Would you like to wait until the tea is ready, or get started now?"

Querl passed through the doorway and into the house, turning on his heel a few feet away. "Why would I mean you any implications to the contrary?" Querl held his hands behind his back and cocked his head to the side. Honestly, Querl wanted to prove that logical would always have its highest seat of power in the universe, but he was subjected to so much irregularity that he had his own doubts.

He nodded his head. "Whatever you prefer, Doctor."

"Tea will be our reward for a job well done, I think." Strange nodded once, buying time to phrase his response to the previous question. "Humans will often say the exact opposite of what they mean when wishing to express contempt. It's typical to do so in the form of a revelation or surprise that isn't actually all that revelatory or surprising."

That was a poor explanation of sarcasm, but honestly it was just as likely that the kid was putting him on. "You seemed more interested in my medical credentials than any mystic prowess. What, exactly, can I do for you?"
