The Laskin Corporation was fairly well equipped when it came to security, of course. The ground floor guards moved to obstruct his path, their hands gravitating instinctively to the firearms on their hips. Before a fracas has time to break out, a pinging noise signalled the arrival of the elevator and Bruce came striding briskly, commandingly into the situation.

"That's alright, everyone. You can stand down." He pushed between the shoulders of two uniformed men and held a hand out to his unexpected guest, a genial smile glancing across his face. "Dr. Fries? Bruce Wayne. Forgive the ceremony; we've grown rather used to people calling ahead. I'm sure you understand."

He took it gently, trying not to crush it.

"Of course," he said, nodding. "They have their jobs and must do it, of course."

He was trying, with effort, to be reasonable. It was difficult, sometimes, especially when violence was more efficient sometimes.

Dr.Fries. How long it had been since somebody called him that.

The crowd dissipated begrudgingly. He was a newcomer to the company and not everyone had liked how quickly he'd managed to wrest control away from the family the company was named for, even if the Laskins were a fabrication of the Waynes. Perhaps one day he would do away with the name altogether.

Gesturing into the heart of the building, he walked and talked. "I have to admit I was rather surprised by your offer."

"I am sure that you were," he says, matching his stride. He has to fight the instinct to try to escape this place.

"But I have been...thinking, of late. Of Nora. What you did for her. And what she would want me to do here, in this time and place."

He stopped, looking at Wayne.

"You were a good man, Wayne. The only man with money I have ever met who I can say that of. And I cannot ever repay you properly for saving Nora's life. But I can try."
