He had parked the car in the typical visitors' lot, a small spatter of asphalt and cement that he felt he already knew too well. Karla was visibly outside the building, a small relief. Eddie cringed at the thought of willingly touching the tiles of NOHoPE for the third time this month, well aware of the -- perhaps irrational -- idea that he was tempting fate.
Tempting fate. Meet fang pitt.
He couldn't stop the shudder.
Eddie took a deep breath and donned his usual smirk, greeting Karla with an opened arm. There was no room for weakness here, for corner for fear -- the doctorate was as sharp as she was venomous. Eddie quickly recalled the eagerness in her voice, when he made his proposal against Norman. It had entranced him at the time, her curved smile and cutting eyes.
"My dear, don't you look lovely?" He spoke with a soothing tone, as he approached. "More beautiful by the day."
Karla hadn't missed Eddie's arrival, watching him from the corner of her eye the entire time. Only when he approached her and addressed her did she turn to face him, a small smile gracing her features. It was something that she had practiced to perfection, to much great success, she might add. However, it was surprisingly easy with Eddie.
Edward Nygma was charming, especially towards her, which was something that she definitely wasn't used to. She hadn't been treated like this since... Well, since she made the mistake of ever falling for and trusting Clint Barton. She wasn't going to fall for that again though, especially since she knew that Eddie was anything but sincere, but that didn't mean that she couldn't enjoy it for a while.
"You're always too kind, Eddie," She walked over to him. "It's almost too good to be true."
The insinuation trembled in the back of his mind, despite the smooth smile he offered. Ever versed in the game of doublespeak and innuendo, Eddie noted the remark deeply -- but without pause. He offered his arm to the lady.
"One can never be too kind to such beauty, Karla. You of all people would know that," he spoke lightly, conversationally. Upon escorting her to his car -- a sleek gift from Bond, European custom -- he murmured the usual politeness and flattery, not missing a beat of the expected rhythm.
Civil war games, all of it.
"I fancied we'd take a light lunch, then a stroll," said Eddie as he revved the car. "Some place chic, perhaps?"
Karla took his arm and even rested her hear against his shoulder as he escorted her to the car. It was a risky move, being this affectionate with him. After all, Eddie wasn't the type of man who was ruled by his emotions or his downstairs brain. If she pushed to far and was too flirtatious, he'd know immediately that something was wrong. However, she didn't see anything wrong with a little harmless fun to draw him in just a little bit more, especially since Eddie so loved to have his ego stroked.
"That sounds lovely, Eddie." Public areas... Either he wasn't concerned about people eavesdropping, or he was uncomfortable being alone with her. She'd have to see if she could change that somehow, and if he thought that a lack of privacy made him safe, he'd have to think again. "You really do spoil me every time we go out together. You really should let me repay you sometime."
