"If they say you're as good as you are," Niles Marquette said, his voice understandably stressed, "then I'm asking you for protection and to catch whomever did this. I know you can help, that you're good at finding people. My wife's building, her car-- That was a bomb. A bomb, Ms. Connor

"We have a client," she said, pausing to squint. No greeting, no 'How are you?' just gritty, tired, business-voiced Sarah. "His wife was apparently the victim of a bombing attempt and he wants out protection. I need you to dig up anything and everything you can on Marquette, first name Niles. His company is Marquette, Inc."

She paused again as her vision blurred and she blinked it away. The world hissed in what felt like a wave of static, drifting like snow before her eyes.

"Is Cameron available to take a swing by the hospital?" Sarah asked, her voice tight. She could ignore it, push it back, and did so by lighting her cigarette. The chink! of her lighter flicking open and the sound of flame was startlingly loud. Sarah watched the tip of her cigarette smolder and ash. It gave her time to pull herself together--it gave him time to digest and speak.
