[Whether or not Tim has been watching the security feeds in the Tower in order to avoid running into Carrie in the public areas (there are NO cameras in the PRIVATE areas, except his own secret lab sections) and, perhaps, picked up on her sudden habit of wearing civilian clothing rather than the Robin uniform, he's here now. Quite possibly drawn by the smell of... whatever that is bubbling away in the pot.

He approaches with customary quietude to lean over her shoulder, peer into the pot, wrinkle his nose and ask:] What is that?

[He makes a thoughtful noise, as if he is seriously considering that for a moment. Sardines and white garlic sauce, huh. Finally he shakes his head with another little smile, though.] No, I think that's too weird even for me.

Glad to hear it. [It's a weak little half a smile, but at least it's a smile.] Always had this theory that you had to be on rae to like pizza like that.

[That's better. Curiously:] I'm guessing rae is some kind of drug in the future? Like we don't have enough of those already.

[He shakes his head again.] My family thought it was a weird topping, too. They stuck with plain pepperoni.

Yeah. They add a couple in the next few decades.

[A quick sigh goes with that one, but the change-the-subject solution is enacted fast enough to prevent anything else.]

'Least you got pretty normal Chinese tastes. Dunno if we could be friends if you were all billy on both fronts.

I try to be normal with everything else, I figure I'm allowed at least one slightly odd thing.

'Cause I figure crime-fighting's totally normal.

[The communicator goes back into a pocket, and... now it's time to wonder vaguely, all over again, how to broach Certain Topics.]

Thirty minutes on the food, by the way.

[The tiniest of sideways looks. This is the complicated part of being a hero that he always thinks about so much that it pisses Kon off on a constant basis, but Carrie is a Robin, she'll probably understand.]

That's what I mean, though - since I was Robin, the rest of my life has to be as normal as it can to balance things out. It's a matter of finessing and keeping everything separate. I guess it's become less... necessary, lately, and especially since coming to the City, but, you know, I think it's important not to let the crime-fighting define you completely, or you might get lost in it.

[That gets a thoughtful pause, and her eyes drop to the floor to consider that for a while. It does make some sense, yeah, but...]

I... think maybe my world's really different from yours. [call it a working theory, but sometimes there's just way too many things that don't add up -- past all the missing heroes in her world.]

[He leans back against the kitchen counter, looking thoughtful.]

Talk to me about it. If you want to, I mean.

[A couple more seconds of thoughtful silence, but eventually she speaks up again.]

Well... middle of a nuclear winter, for one. Nuke went off and killed all the electronics, plus kicked up enough dust to block out the sun. That was the last time I went home.

[Another thoughtful pause, like she's trying to work out what other differences there are without knowing the other side of the equation.]

The boss blew up the mansion, and as far as anyone knows everyone there died. The world knows he was Batman now, though no one pinned a name on Robin. We went underground. It's... only crime-fighting now, really.

[A nuclear winter. Excuse Tim a second while he takes that one in, complete with appropriate eyebrow raising. And Bruce's identity coming out... and blowing up the mansion. Geez, what is it with the future?]

That sounds... really tough, I can't even imagine. How did it happen, how come - is the Justice League still active?

[He can't help being curious, but finding out about the heroes and everything was secondary, still.]

You've definitely got to take advantage of the chance to do normal stuff while you're here, in that case.

[She shakes her head, still looking a little thoughtful.]

Not for ten years, or so. Government made all the masks retire or work for them. [A quick pause, a glance at Tim] Superman picked the government. Which was why Kon was a little, uh... [off-putting.]

Anyway, figure you're... probably right.

Huh. [He can kind of see Clark siding with the government, yeah, depending on the situation. Although after the whole thing with Luthor being president and however much of Superman/Batman counts as actual canon... hm.]

Sometimes I worry that things are going to go that way here, too. It's nice that we're getting recognised as actual citizens and given rights, but politics are pretty volatile, especially when it comes to superheroes running around. But I think Kon would say I'm just being paranoid. [Him and everyone else who isn't a Bat.]

So... anything on the normal kid agenda you really want to try out?

[It's definitely not paranoid, not if her world's history is anything to go by...

...but Normal Kid Stuff seems more interesting to talk about just now.]

Well... there's always travel. You figure that counts?

[It's definitely less of a heavy subject. Tim smiles a bit.]

Sure, although I don't think most normal kids get to borrow the Batjet for it. Where were you thinking of visiting?
