Thor was glad to help her, but through it all - from the first time she'd called him, drunk, to this moment, in a mountainside inn, pulling on a thin jacket he'd bought only to maintain the pretense of being mortal - he wondered why she always came back to him. Other men had been closer to her; other men had loved her. All that existed between Thor and this Wanda was a small collection of awkward moments and, perhaps, something she'd created out of loneliness, some tie that he didn't fully understand.

Yet here he was.

He found her outside, no doubt reveling in the feeling of openness that came with being in the mountains - or else some unshared thought made her smile. Thor came up beside her and was quiet for a moment, enjoying the scenery, the snow, and the relative silence. "Well chosen," he said finally.

"It's home," she responded without turning around. Before the bullet pierced her, she was outside, sticking out her tongue to catch the snowflakes falling. Her brother was by her side, wrapping a warm arm around her protectively and with such love in his eyes, she could melt. She asked to go back to the Balkans and he humored her, but all his promises and words were true.

Now here she was again in another dimension, long after death, and her brother was nowhere in sight.

She bowed her head and turned slightly away. "It's not that different from your home too, right?"

"Asgard?" said Thor, surprised that she had taken that into account. He made a noncommittal noise as he considered the mountains. "Aye, in part. 'Tis a closer fit than the lands beyond New York." He paused, adding, "Though some in Asgard might ask how I should know. From above, one scarcely sees the land for the villages. There be more men in Midgard than giants and gods in all the realms."

"New York stinks," she made a face. It had been her home, but she didn't have to like it. The people, especially. "Asgard must be like Heaven. I've read a bit about it, you know."

Wanda had read through the Prose Edda once though epic poems were not her genre of choice. She preferred the Gothic romantic words of Lord Byron and Shelley, but she always prided herself in her intelligence concerning literature. So, she knew of Asgard and Valhalla and Ragnarok, but she never took Thor seriously the first time around. She was given an assignment to take out this nut job, so she did her best. Then Loki showed his true colors and as it turned out, maybe not everything written down in her little books was fictional after all.
