I found out that one of 'em is from Pisa, and I've been to Pisa. So we chatted about his hometown and what I liked, and man, it's just like actually being in Italy - you give 'em a reason to be hospitable and the next thing you know you're being adopted by an Italian family.

[shrugs] Helps that they're all our age. We'll have to sleep on the floor, but we get all the extra blankets and pillows from the closet.

[satisfiedsigner]

[shrug] The floor in a room's better than the hallway or the stairwell. And hopefully we won't have to sleep here more than one night. [brief glare in the direction of the nearest window]

Yeah. Whatever the hell happened, hopefully they can sort it out tomorrow.

[snerk] ...man, these guys have no idea what they've gotten into. They don't know anything about the City's porter problem and the superheroes.

[satisfiedsigner]

Yeah, or earlier. [blink] They don't know anything? Hmmm, you want me to get rid of this for a bit then? [vague gesture at his eyes]

Well, they didn't up until the snow started. I gave 'em the lowdown real quick but they're still in for a lot of surprises. [shakes his head] Nah, I'm not gonna make you do that. If they got a problem with it, we'll just make them sleep in the hall.

[On the other end of the room, Ruka sits on the edge of the bed. She's tired; her shoes are off and neatly tucked against the wall, and her hair's been pulled down for the night. It's uneven and kinked and needs cutting, but it hides her face well enough.]

[Through her bangs she watches Remus's movements, but says nothing. She has her arms folded around her bent legs, chin against her knees, silent. There's a lot she could say, but it would be useless from her mouth.]

Edgeworth's coat is off, the sleeves of his dress shirt unbuttoned and rolled up to his elbows. He is too much of a pessimist to believe that whatever has happened will end any time soon, and he knows himself well enough to be certain that at least part of the reason they're trapped is his own fault--after all, there was only one other person in the hotel that he knew of as had ice powers, and though she wasn't at all controlled, he didn't think her to the sort to enjoy being trapped in a place with a load of strangers.

Not that he was either.

It says an awful lot about his need to control his temper, at any rate. And he knows that, too.

Edgeworth ignores Lupin in favor of checking up on his daughter, sitting next to her and looking at her somewhat-messy hair from the corner of his eyes with something approaching fondness. After a while, he manages to bring himself to gently pat her shoulder. It's a wordless attempt at comfort, but he can't help but wonder if she'll shrink from him or push the hand away.

There's a moment where it seems like she will rebuke the gesture, but Ruka's shoulders relax under the weight of Edgeworth's hand. She turns her head just enough his way to offer up a comforting smile. A wordless it'll be alright for his sake rather than hers. At least one of them has to be optimistic, and it certainly didn't seem like it'd be either of those two any time soon; besides, she doesn't want either of them worrying after her when there are obviously bigger things going on.

It's when Remus cuts the silence that Ruka looks back the other way. "Severus?" It's not a name she's familiar with off-hand.

There's a knock at the door.

"It's me."

Whether this would prevent or invite hostility, Sirius had no idea, but at least he wouldn't get snarled at accidentally. He just idly expected spikyness from Edgeworth, but it was Remus's temper he was worried about at the moment, that kept his voice soft and cautious. This close to the moon, with this many people and this much going wrong spelled a lot of trouble.

"I, uh, just wanted to let you know that people are getting sorted out into rooms. James and I are transfiguring things into blankets and sleeping bags and the like so everyone'll be as comfortable as possible, considering."

He looks at Remus, and then immediately away, and back again. Yeah, Moony's looked better.

"I'm going to see what I can find out about the...thing that happened, so tomorrow we can make a plan. And, er...yes. Everything's under control for tonight, so don't worry."

Yes, because that was going to happen.

[ And Fred's come a-knocking, mostly to check and see what Lupin's tried, so Fred doesn't accidentally set fire to something important in his attempts to find a way out. ]

As it turned out, James wasn't able to get away from sitting around and thinking about how he might have missed his only chance to meet his dad. Since they couldn't leave, James found an unoccupied room to hang out in.
