Luck had nothing to do with John not sleeping in the lab. His girlfriend threatening to carry him out of the lab while he was asleep was a more powerful force at work than luck was in the moment.

She gave him space to get his work done, only coming to bother him when he needed reminding to eat, or sleep, or go do something else. Or wear his glasses. Not quite nagging, or at least she hoped not, but telling him once didn't mean it would get done and they weren't think she could do for him.

So.

Right now, she was just coming back from ballet. Wondering if she should go back to the house or check up on John.

Checking up on John won.

"I know." Still, sometimes, she wishes she'd done things differently. "How is the work coming along?"

So does he, honestly. "It's coming, I think. I need to put the pieces together for the body. This, I just need her connections."

Cameron reaches over and picks up one of the parts. "It looks good. You're technique is changing, becoming more complex."

"Is that a good thing?" He hopes so.

"It will definitely be useful in this case. From what I understand Red Queen was a complex system, and her abilities give weight to that concept." She smiles at him. "It's very good, John."

He smiles back at her. "Good. Thank you." He wonders how much Sarah and Kyle will agree on that.

Sarah, she thinks, could appreciate the craft if not the actual work at hand. Kyle? She couldn't say. "You're welcome."

Either way, he doesn't want either of them near these projects. "How was ballet?"

"There is a show, in two weeks. Would you like to come?" Which is kind of an answer, but kind of not. It must have gone well if she's in a production on such short notice.

"Really? Yeah, I want to come."

"All right. I don't want it to sidetrack you, however."

"It won't sidetrack me. Don't worry about that."

"I'll try not to. When you've finished this, what will you work on next?"

"Not sure yet. What would you suggest?"
