Wrapping herself in her power, she headed into the still-burning ruins, following the helpless and scared minds of those trapped inside, gently touching them and letting them know they weren't alone, that someone was on the way, that they wouldn't be forgotten.

Sooraya was harder to reach telepathically once she went into her sand form, but she was much more flexible. As millions of silicate particles, she could reach places no normal human could--and breathing toxic fumes, thankfully, was also not an issue. What she was having problems with were the terrified survivors, horrified at the sight of what they could only assume was more rubble and sand collapsing on top of them. Right now she was with a man and a woman, trapped underneath a practical tent of blasted concrete. The man's leg was broken, and neither had not taken the sight of half a girl's face reforming in front of them particularly well ( ... )

"Dust? I'm going to need you a little more solid."
She moved close to the people and smiled, "Don't mind her, she falls to pieces at the slightest thing. I'm going to look at this rubble and figure out how best to move it okay?" She projected a small amount of calm on them so they wouldn't protest too much.
Looking back at her teammate, she waved her over. "Take shallow breaths, keep your head down, I need you to see if there's any rebar or concrete stabbing them."

[Atsuko herself is busy yelling at bereaved people and rubberneckers to go away, which is pretty much her dream job. All the frustration and fear and rage of the last few days have started to come to a head, and because of that she's shouting way louder than she needs to. Into a bullhorn. She wants to be out there in the middle of it, but she doesn't. She knows her powers are useless, so she'd get in the way, and she just--doesn't want to see any more dead people. Not that that would actually keep her away if she wasn't dead weight, but shit, she can halfway smell them anyway.
One of the civilians throws a rock, or a piece of rubble, or something, screaming some words she can't even identify--and she's able to get her whip to curl around it and snap it to the ground before it can smash into one of the delightful NPC cops. At least her powers are good for something.]

Though of course, decked in that fancy revealing yellow costume of hers, she wasn't exactly made for crowd control. She had spent some time helping out the injured, getting them to ambulances or even imPorted healers, avoiding the already dead mostly for the sake of her sanity. She was numb, felt numb, and this whole mess was just a fog to her.
But she wanted to do something right, as though to make up for the lacking of being able to do something for her kid.]

"Medic!" He hacked as he got a lungful of acrid smoke that temporarily blinded him, making navigation impossible, except by sound and stumbling. The body in his arms didn't even react. It was all a horrible nightmare that brought back many bad memories. That, and dear god, Laurie was somewhere in all this.

"Not really the best time to talk, Luke." His shout was muffled and faint over the crackling flames.

"You know what? I think it is." He was a few feet away from Danny now and the place was hotter than an oven. "You ain't got skin like me, Danny. You're gonna get hurt in here. What's wrong with you?"

The Blue Beetle slowed up over a patch of paramedics, giving a wave-salute and shouting his intentions before going ahead to get to work. Details weren't lost on him with the Scarab as the constant backup, and a chirp of alert drew Jaime's eyes to a side to find a familiar energy signature in a fairly unfamiliar shape. It wasn't a good time to chat, though, and especially...Oh, crap!"Above you!" he shouted, making his presence known as his arms reconfigured into a merged, tubular shape. It fired a hissing, ( ... )

How much longer did she have, really?
Finding himself wishing for the first time that he had the middle-ground body available to him, as it was capable of some speech, and unwilling to let the two on his back hit the ground by shifting to the only form he did have that was, Trowa tried to track Jaime through smoke and watery eyes. Catching a glimpse of blue, he gave a loud rumble in the hopes of gaining his friend's attention, and turned his head to look at the bodies draped over himself.
If Jaime could just get them out of there...
