Josh was running a bit early on his way to school and decided to stop and get some coffee. There wasn't much point in getting to class early, since Charlie could just bounce there right before class started, and what was the point of being at school early if your girlfriend wasn't there?

Getting his caramel latte and cinnamon roll (a guilty pleasure, Scatty would never have to know) he looked around for a place to sit. Unfortunately, the Blue Spoon was fairly popular and there were no open tables. He did spy an open seat though at the same table as a very attractive blonde woman. Well, it was okay to ask to sit there if it was only because there was nowhere else to sit, right?

"Um, excuse me," he said, moving over to her table. "Can I share the table with you?"

"If you'd like," she said, glancing at the boy for a long moment. "It seems like either I picked a good place for coffee and everyone else had the same idea, or I simply came at the wrong moment and hit a crowd."

She gestured to the empty seat.

"Please." For some perverse reason, she wanted to deny him the open chair, but she tracked that back to her wish for Gaius' company. He would have probably loved the cafe and there would have been a long conversation about people or science. Mostly science. Caprica smiled at the thought and took a slow, contemplative sip of her latte.

"Thanks," he said, giving her a smile as he sat down across from her. He was glad she had agreed, since he wasn't exactly sure what he would have done if she said no. Only after he was seated did he realize she might have been waiting for someone.

"My name is Josh, by the way," he said, offering her his hand.

"Caprica," she murmured, and licked the foam from her latte from her lips. She shook his hand firmly, not too loose, not too soft, her cool hands warmed by her latte. "And you're welcome. Free seats are difficult to find as it is."

Diana happens to be sitting by the window of that very same cafe. Her work building happens to be quite near the establishment, and she decided to get a cup of tea to energize her for the rest of the day. Normally, she would be off having lunch with her co-workers, but she is in a thoughtful mood today and preferred to be by her lonesome, at least for an hour. Currently, she has both hands wrapped around her steaming cup of tea, looking over some papers.

Caprica watched the flow of the people around her--some tables were a-chatter with normality (work, babies, loved ones), some were clustered in quiet groups, and there was the rare lone figure--like herself--buried in thoughts or, as it appeared, work of some sort.

She decided she liked the cafe for its noise as much for its coffee. There was always so much going on from the man in the corner trying to quietly shush his mistress--for anyone could see that he was married, she was very upset, and the lines of his mouth said that he'd just broken off the affair. Some things never changed.

Caprica watched the wind tug at a paper, calculating the drift of it in an instant. If it pulled free, the angle and curve of it would bring it to her feet. She crossed her legs and shifted in her chair, waiting. Physics was a lovely thing to watch in action.

She has been paying attention to the couple herself. Diana is still focused on her work, but she knows that situations like these could escalate quickly -- she would be there to disperse any trouble if needed. She can see the mistress growing more hysterical by the second, and she is about to stand up and approach the couple when the wind catches hold of her paper, making it float and land at the feet of a blonde woman.

Diana casts another glance at the arguing couple -- it seems that the man has managed to calm the mistress down. She walks towards Caprica instead, looking slightly apologetic as she bends down to pick up her paper.

"I hope I'm not disturbing you -- my attention was elsewhere."

"You aren't," Caprica said, smiling, already easing the paper into the woman's fingers. "I was just wondering if that paper was going to work its way free or not. I guess I have my answer. I, myself, was people watching." She blinked slowly, as if thinking her words over.

"They're fascinating, honestly."
