Sometimes, Selina really hated her life.

She knew she had only herself to blame for a lot of the crap she ended up in the middle of. The tendency to act on instinct and emotion as much as logic. It wasn't that impulse overrode intellect. It was more that she enjoyed the challenge, the thrill of skating by on skill and wits alone and still coming out on top.

But this? This had just been an innocuous little comment tossed in the middle of psychological pissing contest for a moment's amusement. And somehow it had turned into a dinner date with a mass murderer.

Really, that just wasn't fairStill, she'd made it a point to keep track of the threats in this city. Still territorial out of her territory. And the chance to possibly get some dirt on this Kira that had Mello so worked up wasn't something she was willing to turn down ( ... )

So it seemed neither of them really wanted to be here. Both of them had better thngs to do, better people to stalk, better connections to be making. Great. Those always ended up being the best dates.

Still, while they were both here anyway, they might as well dance this annoying, pointless little dance around each other.

He stood almost instantly upon seeing her (or rather, not seeing her at all, sly little fox that she seemed to be), moving to pull her chair out, holding his hand out to offer the seat.

"I hope you don't have anything against gentlemanly common courtesy," she said rather pleasantly, moving to help her coat off.

"Not at all," Selina replied, matching him tone for tone. It wasn't really her style, but all part of the game, wasn't it? "A rare breed indeed." She let him slide her coat off, help her with her chair. She smoothed her dress, tailored and stylish and just skating the edge of conservative, and added a few degrees of warmth to her smile.

She made no more to remove her glasses, instead picking up the menu and studying it in silence. He had arranged this little meeting; let him pick the topic of conversation.

"You much more so than me," he laughed softly, sitting in his own seat opposite her again.

"I believe there's a song for that, isn't there? Sunglasses at night?" It was rude, for one thing, and for another, it made her skepticism over his character a touch too obvious for his tastes. That was just unnecessary.

"Mm. I suppose my choice has already been made by yours truly," he said, pretending to be studying the menu somewhat. "But the wine has not been the decided for yet, has it? Anything in mind?"
