To be honest, Reilly wasn't really that worried about Jason. Sure, what he'd seen on the comm was horrible, and whoever did it deserved to pay. No denying that. What concerned him was Danny -- in the time he'd been here, albeit brief, he'd never heard him that upset.

If he went after this impaling maniac clouded by anger... Reilly shook his head. He couldn't dwell on that. He needed to find something Danny could use. Maybe that might cool him down a bit. Keep him out of trouble.

Unfortunately, he hadn't gotten anything yet. Not even a useful tingle of his spider-sense. Until he spotted a sticky smear of red on a wall. That made his senses flare up. Ducking back into the shadows, he transformed, and Darkdevil began the hunt.

Tim heard something moving, and almost thought he must be hearing things again - but that was definitely a figure moving out of the shadows. There was a throwing disc in his hand before he completed the thought, ready to be thrown if things turned sour - hell, he almost threw it immediately, but he clamped down on that adrenaline-driven impulse. Jason's situation had been posted to the whole network, and it wasn't impossible that this was another hero, arriving a little too late to help.

But there wasn't anything wrong with being cautious. He stepped just out of the shadows, tracking the other figure and keeping the disc raised defensively.

"Who're you?"

Reilly stepped out of the shadows, slowly, waiting to see if his senses stopped blaring at him. They didn't. And as soon as he spotted the disc in Tim's hand, he understood why.

Cautiously, he pulled out his dual billyclubs, the flames flowing over both weapons glowing brightly in the dark.

"I'm Darkdevil. Iron Fist sent me to investigate the scene. Who are you?"

Tim lowered the disc slowly when he heard Iron Fist's name. Danny. That meant this guy was on the good side, despite the whole flaming billyclubs thing. Tech or magic? Something he'd have to ask about later.

And he'd ask Danny why he'd sent someone else instead of letting him handle it. He was a detective, and Jason was - his brother, even after everything. Maybe Danny was worried about his emotional attachment getting in the way, but Tim doubted that that was the kind of thing Danny would worry about - he wasn't Bruce. And he if it was what had prompted him to call someone else in, then he really didn't know how emotionally detached Tim could be. But the simpler answer was that Danny didn't trust him to tell him the truth about everything he might find.

And why should he? insisted a cold whisper in his ear. It felt like something dead, a ghost creeping up onto his shoulder to voice the doubts he held deep inside. So he ignored it, other than frowning slightly ( ... )
