It could have meant anything - one never knew, in New York - but Thor recognized screaming when he heard it, even as warped and muted as it was, coming from somewhere beyond the buildings ahead of him. His abrupt departure from Central Park drew stares, and the sudden gust shook the trees, but it was best to be cautious.

The scene he found caught him by surprise. He'd expected, however unwittingly, to find something he knew how to take control of: some enemy to be subdued, either by Mjolnir or by a show of power. This, though - she knew a different Thor and he knew a different Scarlet Witch, but she was still Wanda. He was no stranger to magic, but neither was he any sorcerer. His only peaceful means of resolution might have had no effect on even the woman he knew, let alone this one.

"Wanda! What is the meaning of this?"

"Only to see you to the Avengers," said Thor, somewhat relieved that she had actually turned back. And then, he supposed, he would stay for a time - to see that the enchantment faded, though he could do nothing about it himself, and because being among Avengers, no matter how few, was perhaps the only thing that could fully distract him from the absence of the other realms.

As such, Wanda was vastly improving his day through no fault of her own. He might have indulged almost any whim of hers, in spite of her state of mind - except putting so many mortals in danger.

The term 'Avengers' was foreign to her in the state she was in. She might have heard of the X-Men and Ultimates, but the Avengers was another universe, another time. As she traveled through the air with her 'brother' by her side, she turned to him with a quizzical look, but trusted his judgment.

They landed on the front lawn of the Avengers Mansion. Any security measures could be easily taken care of by both Wanda and Thor (unless stated otherwise). Through the enchantment, Wanda saw more foliage and the stone remains of a place she used to frequent with Pietro in their youth. She smiled at the fond memories and turned to face Thor again.

"Well?"

"We need not wait here," said Thor, smiling back. He led her toward the mansion with a hand at her back. The others might not want her there, it occurred to him; she was far more powerful than most mortals, and in truth, they had good cause to be wary - but where else could he take her? She was one of them.

The mansion was quiet and lonely inside, which was perhaps for the best, but it doubled the need for Thor to stay. He would have to explain to any who might arrive that the Scarlet Witch was both abnormally unpredictable and absolutely to stay in the mansion, unless someone wanted to take it up with him.

For Thor, they walked into the massive mansion left lifeless and empty by the unpredictable in-and-out of super heroes at the porter's whim. For Wanda, it was the ruins of which she would play with her brother as a child and sneak into overnight as teenagers. She touched the banisters like they were stone walls covered in moss and treaded over the marble floors like her boots were crunching against grass and debris.

"I do not see friends here," Wanda noted though her tone was light and a hint of sadness at the memories that flooded her with this place, at the thought that they may not return again.
