Wanda would have been happy to give the man some money if he'd just asked -- the knife was not only unnecessary, but terribly rude. And.. and, okay, pretty disconcerting.
"Really, you just saw me give that man on the corner my change," she muttered, still rooting through her oversized purse for her wallet. "Obviously I would have shared with you as well if you'd just been a bit more polite."
"Whatever, lady," the mugger grumbled, growing impatient and anxious in the lingering afternoon -- this part of town wasn't quite seedy enough for his liking. "Just.. just gimme the bag, wouldja?"
He reached out to grab it from her, and Wanda yelped protest, clutching the purse to her chest. "I just bought this!" She argued, scandalized.
Creed could hear the dweeb that was, or maybe would be, or maybe never was and never would be, the Scarlet Witch, as she argued with the mugger about how his taking her purse would inconvenience her. What a fucking idiot. Even more of an idiot once Creed peered around the corner to see them both on a nearly deserted street... she was talking back to a guy with a knife, and there was still no sign of her powers kicking in.
Her back was to him. She couldn't see him there. In fact, even the mugger hadn't noticed him yet. He'd stay hidden just a while longer. Give her the chance to annihilate this little prick on her own. For Christ's sake, she was the Scarlet fucking Witch.
Wanda's hand closed over her tiny canister of pepper spray and she stilled, glancing up at the mugger, who pointedly waved his knife, raising his eyebrows.
Hesitantly, she asked, "I don't suppose you'd believe I left my wallet at home?" She blinked in frightened innocence, hand shifting very slowly in her purse to undo the safety catch on the pepper spray.
She may have reeked of fear, but at least it looked like she was going for a weapon or something. Creed wondered if the mugger had noticed yet.
"The bag, I said!" Apparently not. He was more interested in getting his crime over with as soon as possible so he could cash in and get out. Creed shook his head as the mugger kept shouting, "Just gimme the whole bag! NOW, or I'll cut you!"
By now, Sabretooth was bored with the whole drama. If he just watched this play itself out, he knew the guy would get away with something. And next, Wanda would be on the Network, 'boo hoo that rude man made off with my handbag.' Sure enough, then she'd have that goddam stalker of hers racing around every inch of the City just to beat the crap out of this idiot over some housekeys and a tube of lipstick. It was actually less trouble to intervene
