As some sort of jungle animal would, Takaya had been lying in wait for this exact moment. How long ago he'd broken loose of his bonds was unclear even to him, but it'd been the sudden surge of willpower Jin's arrival had put within him, a fire in his chest that had dimmed through his recent sufferings that had allowed him to break loose. To be honest, he was seething - more so than usual - but unwilling to just leave without a bit of vengeance. It was vainglory at its finest ( ... )

The door clicked under his fingers as it gave and opened. Katurian had left the lights on in his absence, and so he didn't need to stumble or grope for the walls as he moved down the long stairway towards the main room of the shelter, the room where he had been keeping Takaya. It was quiet. His feet found each stair perfectly. Nothing seemed amiss.

It was only when he reached the bottom of the staircase that he noticed the chair where he kept Takaya was empty.

"Lose something?" Takaya leaned against the wall, arms crossed leisurely. His body language was relaxed even though his tone of voice was uncharacteristically flat. At least Katurian had had the good grace to leave him in a well-lit room instead of pitch blackness, which in all honesty Takaya would have done to Katurian. That little kindness was negated by having kept him hostage for two weeks, taped to a kitchen chair twenty four hours on end, but it was something. Not that it got him any good favors.

"I can't imagine what." He stood up, hand falling back to its natural position along his stomach and over where his revolver would normally be. He really did miss that gun. "Now, why don't we make this brief, Katurian. K. Katurian? Move aside and your suffering shall be mercifully brief; I have no pleasure for your games and am needed elsewhere."

Katurian would have been able to prevent this if he only returned when he was supposed to. It read like a twist. Like a tragic underestimation. Like one of his stories. His lips quirked into a smile. He wasn't sure why - it really wasn't that funny.

"Get back in the chair, Takaya." Though he tried, he couldn't keep his voice from wavering just slightly. "Come on. I don't want to shoot you."

He eased a hand towards his own gun, buried at his waist. Slow. Slow.
