Even with all the weird smeg going on in the world, even with what appears to be open civil war looming on the horizon, life went on. A Thursday afternoon spent napping off the worst of the trans-Atlantic jet lag (or rather 'teleport' lag), and then dinner. Perhaps a movie put on.

Rimmer's homebody attitude would likely never, ever change. He liked being home, staying in, working on his own projects and not having to worry about shaking his funky thing down the disco. That was where he and Lister always came to loggerheads. Their worst fights were always when he went against his better judgment and allowed the Scouser to drag him to some seedy pub on some backwater moon during shore leave. Not for him, no thanks!

Tonight's dinner consisted of a chicken meatloaf and a spring salad, with plenty of wine to go around. Since he was now regularly cooking for five, he always made that and a considerable amount extra, so Joseph and Terry and Lister could rustle leftovers while he and Raven were overseas.

And woe betide anybody ( ( ... )

And enter that very exception to Arnold's rule, complete with the cat Peter cradled in her arms. He had gotten so big, a full grown kitty now, but she still loved to carry him around just like when she first got him over a year before. He didn't seem to mind it all that much, content to purr away as long as she continued to give him attention.

She always did like to hover around the kitchen when Arnold made dinner, and it wasn't just from the delicious smells - it was the honest curiosity of watching him at work. He'd improved even more in his cooking skills since moving in with her, but that was probably from cooking for her, and soon others all the time. He seemed to do certain things effortlessly, where it would have taken her the better part of an hour to complete.

She peered over his shoulder the way she usually did.

Literally hovering? Because that's the only way you're going to be able to see over his shoulder, Miss five foot four inches, heels or no heels. Long Rimmer is long.

Of course, since she was hovering, and since Peter's purrs were masked by the sound of him cooking, he didn't notice her sneak up behind him. He picked up his frying pan lid (where he was simmering the onions in white wine) and spun around quickly to slap it on his pan when he spotted her.

A verbal sort of keysmash escaped his lips, and he dropped the copper lid quite loudly on the tile floor. He then leaned up against the counter, clutching his chest and panting.

"You...brat," he said, finally laughing.

Naturally the very loud sound was able to startle a kitty, which was precisely what happened, causing Peter to freak, and begin clawing his way up over Raven's shoulder, and halfway down her back to jump to the floor. He was gone before she stopped seething from the slight claw marks.

Slowly, she levitated back down, giving him some space to breathe, with a very sheepish look on her face.

"Sorry, I should have warned you."

Joey's been in a drawing and painting frenzy most of this past week - working from the photos and sketches of his models from the week previous - and then going out in the evenings. Tonight - a Tuesday evening - he's home before 2:00am for once, sitting on his bed working on a sketchpad propped on his knees with his water color kit on hand.

He's done more work with his photos of Mary than of anyone else so far, this particular sketchbook almost filled with reworkings of his photos of her and the photos she had taken out by the lake.

She had a decent eye for framing, all told.

He's very absorbed in his work, his headphones in, and an embarrassingly large collection of Disney soundtracks are filling up his head. It's his idea of a night well spent.

Due to Raven's strange work schedule, no-one ever really knew when she'd be home. Some day she was gone all night long, hitting multiple locations overseas - other days she'd have to teleport to the City for a meeting. But it could be counted on that no matter how busy she was, she'd find time to either say good night or good morning to all the boys each day.

Joey was on the receiving end of one of those greetings tonight, especially since it was so strange to have him home at this time of night, usually he was out far longer.

First Raven knocked on the door frame, but when he didn't respond, she smirked. He always did get so caught up in music and his work - so she just patiently waited for him to notice her there.

She was waiting a minute or so, until the happy bouncy instrumental from under the sea got him to do a bit of head bobbing and then there she was in his peripheral vision. He jumped, barely managing not to send his brush streaking across the page. Thank god for fighting reflexes.

He pulled his headphones out, put the brush in the water cup and gave her a hello wave.

She began to laugh immediately, waving a bit in response before bothering to take a few steps in, her hands clasping behind her timidly.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you. I didn't really want to disturb you. You looked so invested in what you were working on."

She had to admit it, though... his reaction was worth startling him.

After the convo with Joey ajrimmer_ssc May 22 2010, 01:41:53 UTC
It was late. And, as such, Arnie was sound asleep in bed, dreaming his petty little dreams. Yes, sometimes he and Raven would go to sleep at separate times. They weren't entirely attached at the hip, you know. Ahem.

Not entirely. Just mostly. Usually when he fell asleep before her, she'd levitate herself smoothly into bed to keep herself from waking him up. This time though, not so much.

She let herself flop down into the bed, letting out a dramatic sigh, with full intent on stirring him. Her mind was blown.

Yup, that woke him up. Even a heavy sleeper like him would be awakened by that.

"Wharglmbl?" he asked muzzily, blinking and mussed from sleep. His hair resembled nothing more than an overgrown sheep that had wandered tragically close to an electrical transformer.

She looked over... then promptly started laughing, fixing up some of his hair. Poor thing, now she felt guilty about waking him up.

"Hi."
