Am I on?

[beleagured sigh]I really should read up on how to operate these infernal devices. Really, I much prefer the look and texture of a book, even after being trapped in one for a millennium. Still, I’ve been told this is the most common form of communication, so it would behoove me to learn how to use it, at least ( Read more... )

Y-you're a librarian?

Ah, well, not... exactly. I do have a way with books, though. It comes with being stuck in one for a millenium, you see.

Might I ask your name, fair maiden?

You were stuck in a book?!

It's-it's Lorna.

I'm afraid so. Less than entirely pleasant, but there are worse fates to meet.

A pleasure to make you acquaintance, then, Lorna.

May I inquire as to why you seek a librarian?

Yes, and no, though I know of him.

An enchanted tome.

He eats flesh. Reeeeeal creepy.

Sos is an enchanted tome like the magical story books that are possibly from the underworld, that suck you in and then you gots to live out the story, buts you can skip to another story and have fun, and learn life lessons, and make friends, and then get chased by something that's trying to eat you, buts then you turn things around by pushing them into an oven, or into a tree, and then they say they're sorry and you all eat cake and live happily ever after?

Oh? I'm afraid I wasn't aware of that version of the tale, though I can hardly say I'm surprised. Fairy tales truly can be gruesome affairs.

No, it was actually a normal book, albeit one of charms and spells and incantations, before I was bound to it by a foul dragon with the last of his strength after I vanquished him.

So you must be from quite a long time ago, as you mentioned a 'millenium'. One would imagine such technology is confusing, but you become accustomed to it quickly.

Welcome to The City.

I... believe it was sometime approaching the turn of the first millennium, though my memory from then is a tad fuzzy, unfortunatley. I should certainly hope so, and I thank you for your confidence in me.

Thank you. Might I have your name, fair maiden, as well?

Of course.

I go by the name of Desdemona - and you seem to have quite the way with words. There aren't too many silver-tongued men like yourself in these times.

It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, then, Desdemona.

I endeavor only to be polite, courteous, and honest. If such is not the way of modern times, then men of honor and virtue must sadly be far too few.

Believe me when I say you're not the only one here unfamiliar with the technology.

With the chaos going on right now, I don't think many places are hiring. Not right this second anyways. But.

[have a list of libraries]

That's understandable. I suppose I'll have to see if I'm good enough, even with this curse, to do what I used to and vanquish evil once more, and help alleviate this mess.

... Hrm. Thank you. I suppose these... computers are most valuable as a database of information, though I still have much yet to learn about them.

Computers are a little difficult at first, but in the end it's kind of like a giant encyclopedia where searching the index is near instant. Kind of.

There are computer classes for people who aren't up on the times though. I'm not sure exactly where, but the local community colleges should probably offer one.

I see...

Might you be able to tell me, good sir, whether there are books on the proper operation of a computer and how detailed they are?
