Yo. Tell me this.

Who made New Year reso - reso - wishes? What were they, have you started them, do you think you'll do them, or have you given up?

[And more to himself...]

Compare with your own and describe... [A small, gruff sigh and the sound of paper being waved around.] This is stupid.

Writing exercise, perhaps? Normally they'd serve to give you a scenario to think about, a chance to stretch the vocabulary you've learned so far.

Yeah, I like that better.

[But the hand he waves dismissively is holding a pencil, so he's still going ahead with it.]

But this is important, too? So it's okay, whatever.

I must ask however, I know this assignment must seem random aside from it's timeliness, but given the choice, what subject would you prefer to practice with?

I like art. Unless you mean writing? Writing is okay, I like when we talk about the wars humans have. The old ones. And stories.

Well, the writing helps you learn the language, doesn't it? Have you tried writing anything on those topics? History can be a very interesting subject!

Yeah. We don't get homework on that much, just little questions. And... [Tiny bit of fidgeting.] Math takes too long, so I don't get to write much.

Well, math is important, too. Bobbi's very good at math, I'm sure she could teach you a few tricks to work it out quicker, if you asked her.

[He could, too, but he doesn't want to get in the way of the opportunity for her without giving her a chance at it.]

I do good enough.

[Read: IT'S STUPID I DON'T WANT TO. But moving on, because has a thought.]

I guess I could... write by myself, but I don't get grades for that.

No, not particularly. But that depends on whether you enjoy it enough to do so without the grade!

Perhaps it could be permitted as extra credit...

Can you make it extra credit?

[He beams at the idea. He does like writing, but he's not going to directly admit it any time soon.]

I can, at the least, present the idea to your teacher.
