001 [Video]

[Of course, the first thing Alex does is drop his comm, but there's at least a flash of yellow before it hits the pavement and turns off again. Still, it's not long before he manages to halfway figure out how to kind of turn it on. There's a long shot of the MAC as Alex presses the phone to his ear.]

[More flipping of the comm as Alex presses it back to his ear. Wait, didn't Erik leave the beach with--- Hmm.]

Yeah. [Kind of at a loss for words, too.]

Stay where you are. Charles and I will come find you. [no charles you don't have a choice. not that you aren't thinking the same thing right now anyway.]

Yeah, sure. [Pause as he tries flipping the communicator around again. This thing is too confusing.]

You know where we are?

[Erik is walking now as he addresses his communicator.]

It is New York City, but they call it The City. The year is 2011. The Porter brings people here from other dimensions.

[It hasn't come up, but it is not difficult for Erik to assume that if alternate versions of Charles, Raven and himself exist in other timelines, then there will probably be another version of Alex in those worlds too.] Some of those dimensions are alternate versions of our own. There are a significant number of strangers here who recognize Charles and I. [A brief pause.] So you know what to anticipate.

2011? [Wait, that's almost forty years in the future. But oh hey look he can see Erik in the thing. Alex holds it closer to his face to try and see better. ]

Uh 'recognize?' [It's a lot to take in in five minutes.]

[Erik realizes that it is a lot of information to take in, but he seems to think that it is best to educate Alex on the situation as soon as possible.]

We do not know them, but they know us. Alternate, older versions of us.

[Alex nods and grimaces as he takes a look around, mostly up at the gynormous buildings surrounding him. He's never seen skyscrapers like this holy crap.]

Do they expect us to know them?

Generally, no. They all seem to realize that we are younger than the versions of ourselves that they know.

[Alex nods. At least that much is good news. Okay, so they're forty years in the future, they're in New York City (at least they aren't in the USSR!), and there's a bunch of people who know them. He's quiet for a little bit before he gets pinged by another response]

Who are the 'X-People'?

[Erik is not entirely surprised by the sudden change in subject, since he's been keeping his eye on some of the other responses as well.]

Charles' team in another timeline. The X-Men. [He still thinks that name is kind of dumb.]

[Yeah, Alex thinks it's dumb too. He also thinks this comm is pretty stupid and inconvenient, but hey there's nothing he can do about it.]

I'm supposed to be on that team already or something. [Which he kind of is not super okay with. Kurt's already outed himself as a teammate and there's more than a few people clamoring in the same direction. The key part of it, though, is that he doesn't know any of them and being pushed onto a new team just when he got used to the 'old' one is disconcerting.

It also begs the question of which team Erik is supposed to be on, considering the last time Alex saw him on the beach.]

Hm. They are not an active team here, to my knowledge. There is the Xavier Institute, though-- this world's incarnation of the school for mutants that Charles founded.

[Alex glances around again, squinting up at the sun for a moment before glancing back at the comm.]

Where's the Institute in the City? [Half because he can start walking in that direction and half because he wants to know how close to people it is.]
