It is New York City, but they call it The City. The year is 2011. The Porter brings people here from other dimensions.
[It hasn't come up, but it is not difficult for Erik to assume that if alternate versions of Charles, Raven and himself exist in other timelines, then there will probably be another version of Alex in those worlds too.] Some of those dimensions are alternate versions of our own. There are a significant number of strangers here who recognize Charles and I. [A brief pause.] So you know what to anticipate.

Charles' team in another timeline. The X-Men. [He still thinks that name is kind of dumb.]

I'm supposed to be on that team already or something. [Which he kind of is not super okay with. Kurt's already outed himself as a teammate and there's more than a few people clamoring in the same direction. The key part of it, though, is that he doesn't know any of them and being pushed onto a new team just when he got used to the 'old' one is disconcerting.
It also begs the question of which team Erik is supposed to be on, considering the last time Alex saw him on the beach.]
