Second Gear - Video

[The feed clicks on and a few moments later, Tali's face pops up into view. She clears her throat before she starts talking, glancing down now and again at the screen of her omni-tool. The discerning eye will note that the tiny screen is covered with text.]Hello. Now that I've settled in, I think it's important that I give myself a little direction ( Read more... )

An engineer, you say?

[Tali is currently concentrating on not letting her form flicker back to her quarian enviro-suit, since she's starting to learn that can happen when she's nervous or not paying attention. Now would not be the time...be cool, Tali.]

Yes. My most recent work has centered around abandoned alien technology and starship engines.

Really? You know, with that kind of background, there are some very prolific companies that would love to have you working for them.

I was hoping that someone would say that. I'm exceedingly curious about what this place has to offer in terms of technology.

[Look at those shining and eager eyes, Tony. She's never really had a chance to look at archaic human-made anything before!]

You're going to work for Stark?

I'm entertaining the idea -- but he still has to make a job offer, you know. Thanks for confirming who he is, though.

I can confirm more than that. [a long hesitation] I must caution you to tread lightly around him. [damn this infernal desire for people to choose their own individual destinies...]

And why do you say that I should be treading lightly around him? I'd be happy to listen to what you have to say about him.

[Ghost has proven himself to be ... informative, at least. And not altogether unfriendly.]

[ Have a young human girl peering curiously through the video feed. ]

So are you looking for a job, or just a project to spend your time on?

At this point I'm looking for either. At home I had both, and I'm sure I'll end up with both eventually.

Well, I'm afraid I can't afford to offer a job in my current financial state, but I would be more than happy to get some help on any future projects I might have.

And I'd be happy to help! Just let me know what you have in mind.

[There's a 2-second delay and then Aoi's face is replaced by the Laughing Man icon.]

I wonder if you know how to reboot electronic brains, or if you'd be able to figure it out. It's a touchy subject and I don't really want just anybody horsing around with my head on account of it being all touchy like, but it needs to be done and nobody else has seemed qualified.

[Tali is not particularly trusting of robots. That sort of thing happens once they drive you off your planet. She knows she doesn't have to be honest, but she can see -- well, that he's probably been hacked. And if she knows how they work, she can probably fight more effectively against them if they ever try to kill her...]

I can't say I've done it before, but that doesn't mean that I ... couldn't.

Recommend development work with Global Dynamics. Import-run company that I work for, cutting-edge fields. Would be good use of your skills. Currently looking into Porter function with a colleague, would be happy to have your help.

Regardless, engagement with working world definitely positive, both in terms of integration and personal well-being. Hope you find something you can enjoy.

Apparently I'll be touring StarkTech later today; we'll see what they have to offer. I'll certainly look into work with Global Dynamics if they have your recommendation, though.

Stark? Met him briefly. Research for Porter project, also assisted with Clinic defense during riots. Undeniably brilliant, advanced technology. Would definitely keep you busy. Seemed like a bit of a cloaca though.

That seems to be the popular opinion of him. As long as I'm going to be challenged and busy, I don't care too much about his cloacal leanings.
